Turbo F20C, tube chassis, Triumph TR6
Hey guys. I’ve been working on this for a while, but didn’t think to put it on here until now. I hope you enjoy. Please share positive commentary only.
Backstory – I grew up with british cars, mainly Triumphs and Jaguars, and occasionally an MG or two. I’ve always liked Spitfires and tr6’s, but have gravitated more towards the latter due to being just a little bigger, and slightly better designed suspension. I picked up a cheap tr6 last year, and had the idea to buy a low mile F20C and swap it into the original chassis. As it turns out, the engine fit reasonably well, and would’ve required minimal changes to the steering shaft to work. But then, I realized that I would have a car with a modern power plant riding on ancient suspension/braking, and that just wouldn’t due justice to the rest of the car. So, then I started looking at modifying the stock TR6 frame to accept front and rear subframes from another car. Unfortunately, at that point, the shortcomings of the original frame for the application were realized, and we decided to start over with a new chassis all together.
I picked up front and rear subframes from the NC incarnation of the Mazda Miata, choosing this platform namely for the cost, oem/aftermarket parts availability, and a huge local amount of racing support for all classes of Miata racing, so I knew that I could get some hands on input for tweaking the suspension and whatnot.
With that in mind, this is what the build consists of:
*NC (2006+) Miata front and rear complete subframes – with rx8 calipers all around, and 2 piece rx8 (12.8” fr) brake rotors.
*AP1 F20c with 55k miles, purchased from a member on here.
*Turbo kit – using Trackforged turbo manifold, precision 5558 turbo, 1000CC injectors, etc. AEM EMS V2 for tuning.
*Custom built (valved, and 3” shortened shafts and bodies) Bilstein coilovers
*Ford 8.8 differential upgrade
*Custom box tube frame, with integrated roll bar, door bars, firewall bracing, and tie-ins to suspension pickup points.
*CCW 3 piece Classic wheels – 17x9 all around, on Toyo RA1 245 rubber.
*Custom fiberglass fenders
*Complete chassis re-wire, using painless wiring kit.
*Target weight – 2200-2300 lbs wet, without driver.

It wasn’t a bad start…But it was about this point, I figured I’d need better braking and suspension capabilities if I really wanted to drive the hell out of the car like I intended. .
And so I bought these:
And out came the engine (at another shop, where the car currently resides)
Next step, was to take some stuff out of the interior, and get the body off the frame.

We threw on a couple wheels I bought just for mockup, to see what we had to work with. These are 17x9 + 35 or something like that. Can you say fender flares???
I was able to find the guy who made these fenders, and coaxed him into making me a set…thinking they just might be wide enough.
