"Thank you for getting in touch. We do allow S2Ks with factory roll hoops as long as the drivers pass the “broomstick” test with their helmet on. Most tracks are very particular about this rule and will black flag cars accordingly and we are very focused on safety as well. I hope that helps and we see you guys out on track this season."

Many thanks for the start of a new track thread.

Should be interesting season with the new track coming online (Palmer) and also with Watkins plan to pave the track.

There is a good chance we will be running the short course during the July event at WG with SCDA.
I have a race at WG on 7/4-/75 as part of the SCCA Majors series and I believe that will be run on the full track so maybe we will be able to run the long track.

Time will tell.

Does NASA have similar regulations regarding running the S with stock roll hoops as SCDA?

If so, that may be my trip to WGI this year...cooler temperatures better for FI cars
plus we can use the garages.

Then might do SCDA in August at NHMS..

...and I got a GoPro from Santa!

You should be good to go with NASA, but send an email to Joe Casella just to be on the safe side. Not sure if NASA will allow garages as those may be reserved for instructors and club racers, but nevertheless check with Joe the Regional Director (jcasella@nasane.com).

I went karting again on Saturday AM. Did five races and was there until 1 PM. Did not improve time wise. Still a good second off the fast times.

Except for one race where I was the only one on track, they clubbed me with some families that were visiting. It was fun. I tried some new things like avoiding (more like minimizing) wheel spin going around corners. That supposedly helps improve times. Well I did not improve but did not go slower either.

One thing that seems to be clear is how sensitive a kart is. Not just to the extra ballast I carry but also to steering and brake inputs. Another thing I got to practice was different lines owing to running with others. I was either passing or being passed.

Should carry a GoPro next time I go. Just to see how I'm doing.

That was a good way to start the new year and keep yourself busy.

I emailed Joe, he gave me the broomstick test shpiel.

SCDA has the same rule but NEVER in the close to a dozen HPDE's I've done with them have they measured.

Do you get the feeling that NASA would be the same way? 12 hours round trip is a long way to drive only to find out I can't run.

Has anyone else with stock roll hoops run with NASA? Did they make you get in the car and measure?
