I thought the immobiliser was part of the alarm system? Because I have a AEM Series 2 and the immobiliser definitely still works.

How do you know it still works, have you tried starting it with a uncoded key?

Well if I leave the car unlocked for more than a minute, the immobiliser kicks in and the car won't start till I try and unlock it again? So the alarm unit is still interrupting the signal to the starter motor and immobilising the car?

Well thats probably just a feature on your alarm system then.
The factory immobilizer needs to communicate with the oem ecu to function and it does not affect the starter motor.
I usually never lock my car when it sits in the garage, starts fine every time.

I think there's a different problem than the key or immobiliser here. I'm under the impression it can be a bit tricky to get the cold + hot starts calibrated properly with an aftermarket ECU. But also it could be a dodgy fuel pump relay, a crank/cam sensor issue, or any other number of things. It's just my gut on this, but I think you're barking up the wrong tree with the "poor starting = problem with the key"

Can you hear the fuel pump run for a couple of seconds when you turn the key ?

If you have an AEM I can send you my map to see if it solves it. I wouldn't use it to drive on as my engine is wildly different to yours in level of tune, but you could use it to see if the car starts earlier.

You'd have to have same size injectors and everything else for it to start. Wouldnt advise it!
