Oil Filter

Standard oil filters seal with just a rubber gasket, the S2000 filter has a rubber gasket in between two metal rings.
When properly torqued (impossible to do with just a mortal hand) there is metal to metal contact.

Sounds like the reason^^so due to heat build up from manifold & position, makes rubber soft and looses its squish load sealing capability.
9k rpm has little to do with it,
my old Ducati hit the red at 10.5k no probs there with loosing filters.
Interesting about the sealing with OEM filter, any pictures details

Golden rule with S2000 filters, tighten to contact then 7/8 of a turn more. I have the Tegiwa retainer just for peace of mind. Loose filters seem to be the most common cause of S2000 fires on the USA forum.

Flanders is on the money with this. The engine is prone to high vibration and the oem filter must be torqued correctly. Mine wasn't and it came loose. Oil went everywhere in the engine bay, underneath and up the back and side of the car. Smoke poured out the back from where it sprayed all over the manifold. I shut it off as soon as I see it. I got the car back a week later, give it some beans and it starts knocking with bearing swarf all in the oil. I'm not the only one for this to happen to either. This sort of problem is quite well documented on here

Torque to 22Nm/16ft lbs or 7/8 turn after gasket contact, this is also written very clear on the filter itself.
I use a torque wrench with a cheap oil filter adapter that I bought from ebay.
