Default 3M Carbon FIber Vinyl Not Glossy Enough?

Hey guys,

Been thinking about wrapping my hood in 3M Carbon Fiber for a while. Now that I have a CR front and red badges, it should look more racecar-ish with a carbon fiber hood... I would totally buy a carbon fiber hood in Mugen style or Spoon style, but everything Seibon/VIS make is just pure rubbish.

So the samples that I got from 3M don't really strike me as the way to go...is there a way to glossify or put a clear coat on the vinyl after I wrapped the hood? Also, its texture is rough, unlike most smooth carbon fiber finish...how would you guys approach and tackle these problems to make it more realistic, in a sense?

EDITED: here is how it is looking so far:

Thanks,
Kevin

Pics in that thread as well. I will say it looks way better right now then it will with a carbon hood.

Yeah that does look more realistic than the 3M! However, I will need to do more research on Vvivid, since there aren't many apparent information about this vinyl manufacturer.

Okay, I have decided on 3M 1080 for its reputation. Hopefully from a distance (not too close) will look rather realistic.

Also ordered a CR wing and trunk...this is rather exciting!

i think i rather have a seibon or vis carbon fiber hood then a 3m vinyl oem hood. To me keep the hood oem white. looks classy and better. other wise if you dont like seibon or vis save up for a authentic mugen or js. To me any car with a vinyl wrap hood to be cf vinyl is tacky.

Agree my car is wrapped and Ive had my roof wrapped with the 3m carbon vinyl. It has a dull finish to it, its not going to trick anyone into thinking its real wet carbon. Keep your hood white, even if you get a nice carbon hood it wont really go well with the car. I like vented hoods when they are color matched to the car. I think the 3m carbon wrap looks good on smaller pieces such as in the interior.

I had a small part that I used 3M Scotchprint 1080 Carbon Fiber Vinyl Flex Wrap on. I wanted to protect it with clear epoxy. Strangely, the clear epoxy coat made the carbon fiber pattern completely disappear. It just looked solid black.

If you are thinking some type of clear coat to make a glossy surface, test it on a scrap piece first.
