Default Buying S2K brakes need replacing need advicie

I've got a deposit down on an s2k but I've has it independently checked out by a Honda specialist and they said the brakes and discs are corroded are in need of replacement.

The garage I'm buying the car from said there checks show the brakes are fine.

This feels like make or break now as the garage seem reluctant to pay for the brakes because they are seeming to say "one garage might say they are corroded another might not"

Note I am paying the listed price for the car too they haven't knocked anything off or given me anything as an extra.

Please help I'm expecting a call back within the hour which could be me turning the car down or not depending what they say, do I play hardball and potentially miss out on this opportunity or not??

Thanks

You've had them independently checked for a reason.

Time to walk away if they won't budge.

Unless the deposit is as much as the cost of replacement brakes!

Not S20004U is it?

So the garage came back and said they are 65% worn which doesnt cross their limit to warrant them replacing them. He said thats amber i think. What % will.they need replacing at?

We agreed that i would get the deposit bacm if anything bad came back from the inspection.

Discs are corroded....as in surface rust?

Mine get surface rust after a brief rain.

Given you can replace the lot for about £150-£200, I wouldn't worry too much, but use it as a negotiating point for price.

The guy at the garage is right that one persons acceptable brake discs is another persons it needs replacing. Ultimate way to tell if a brake disc needs replacing is to measure the thickness of the disc. You could buy replacement discs and pads for the whole car for £250 or less.

Brakes would not concern me when buying an S2000. I would be more concerned about the engine and its oil consumption (2k+ if it goes wrong)as well as the alignment bolts not being seized (£1000 for bushes and labour).

Plus if the cars stood on a forecourt and been washed then the brake discs will rust up but a few hard braking sessions will soon rub off.

I wouldnt let the discs put you off an otherwise good car. At 14K thou it better be a mint example with hardly any mileage!

Thanks for all the replies by the way guys love this community already!

Yeah I had it checked out and the brakes were the only thing that came back. Geo bolts were checked and there fine that was the main thing for me.

It is pretty mint only got 33k miles, 0808 with a year warranty and 2 new tyres at the rear. Softtop in great condition no hardtop as it's not a gt and it comes with full Honda history and a tonneau(spelling) cover.

Time to watch the new avengers film and chill out from the stress of today Haha.
