Hi. I need some help/guidance.

I have a 2002 Honda S2000 which is experiencing miss firing, lack of power, exhaust smoke on start up, engine light on, over heating etc.

No one has been able to diagnose the exact issues as yet, but I have been told that is will probably need an engine rebuild or a replacement engine and I am finding it hard to find a specialist near the Bedfordshire area to do this. I am hoping people here could give me some recommendations of places they have had experience with? A place which is competent with these types of engines and also has the ability to source and install a new engine if needed.

Any assistance would be great. Thanks in advance

For a big job like that if it isn't too much trouble to get the car there then I would try TGM Sport in Fleet, Surrey. It may seem like a long way but they definitely know what they are doing with S2000's. I travel from Hertfordshire to them even for servicing, car always feels better when it comes out of there.

Hi,

Just to let you now that my Honda is finally ready for collection. It has been a long couple of months but fingers crossed the final result will be worth it!!!

Initially Leon (JPS Motor Sport)thought that the Head needed replacing which was good because I thought it needed a lot more work, but from starting to take apart the engine there were a number of other issues which became apparent.

In May he came across an issue when he sent the head off to be checked and skimmed, head only needed 3 thou taken off which would not represent the issues I had with the car previously (multiple miss firing and over heating), he then checked the block face and found it was 6 thou out along with also noting number 4 cylinder had a build up of oil which could have been a sign of an oil ring fault or damage. Along with this number 2 and 3 cylinder bores were heavily glazed and number 1 and 4 cylinders still had cross hatchings meaning some work I had done on the engine previously really had not been executed properly!

In June he got the engine back from the engineers and he was about to hone bores ready for the rebuild but found number 3 cylinder (liner) was damaged, needing a new liner, which pushed things back an extra week due to the engineers being so busy. Later on that month he noticed the knock sensor was knackered and needed replacing, and as no aftermarket company stocked them let alone lists them online the only place to get one was from Honda.........had to be replace as engine would not run correctly without it.
now have issue with no spark, am going through all checks and all seems ok, question is, do you have a spare key as thinking it could be the immobilizer? Don’t want to be wasting time chasing my tail as to speak.

Finally at the start of this month the engine was rebuilt and back in the car but it wouldn't start, no spark. He played around with the crank position sensor and eventually it fired up as the oil press switch needed replacing. Went to get an MOT but it failed as the Restraint system warning light was on indicating a fault and the nearside upper ball joint was excessively deteriorated so these needed replacing.

After all that the car eventually passed the MOT and is ready for collection so fingers crossed all is well and will get some sort of warranty to cover the work carried out!
