I have never recommended a specific oil. I provide information and advice only.
Both oils have good specifications so will perform well in the required engine tests. Some oils will just pass whereas others will pass the limits by miles.
Castrol formulations tend to be bespoke and developed Inhouse with technology stories beyond the specifications, Eg Titanium in edge or co engineered with OEMs, (development budgets for these oils can be millions) where as other companies will buy a general sales offer which will be of a more 'for for purpose offer'.
Looking at petronas product it has API SM rather than the later API SN spec. The Edge oil also has the VW505 01 specification which is very challenging as its for VW PD engines which have massive can loads and other challenges for the oil. I'm pretty sure what is in that petronas too looking at the PDS.
Buying British is always good too. Supports UK pensions.
I'm currently using Magnatec 5W-40 A3/B4 but that's not available here, will be testing it in 1000 miles to compare to 3 oil changes on old edge turbo diesel/edge 5w-40. This will probably be a good comparison for C3 vs A3/B4 oils. Next Ill try the new edge 5W-40.
Ps I've used only Castrol oils since 90k miles when I got the car. It's just hit 168,500 miles today on the original engine...
