Bilstein PSS9 -vs- HKS GT IV
#31
I have the HKS IV GT. Love them to death. Agreed that they are a little soft but on a summer daily driver they do a fantastic job absorbing all the bumps, dips and irregularities on the road. You can rest your head back on your seats and not feel like a bobble-head like other stiffer coilover setups. They also make absolutely no noise due to their rubber pillowball tops. Overall if you do mostly cruising with some spirited driving these are strong coilovers to consider. The GT are girlfriend/wife friendly.

You can order a set of HKS through us and as long as the rates are within +/- 2k the shocks will be able to handle it. You can upgrade with Swift Springs.
So you could get the GTs with 10k Front and 9k Rear Swift Spring upgrade.

Do you know if you could also do the same with the SPs? Perhaps soften the spring rate a little bit?

So I took the plunge and bought these coils. Install was a breeze but they were a little tight getting the bottoms on with the spacers that Hks provided. Took me about 30 min with air and a lift.
The Compression Damping settings were NOT in the middle (15 from full stiff) when they arrived so double check yours. Mine were all over the place at 17 on one, 14 on another 18 on another...I just set them all on the middle setting.
Also, I lowered mine about 1/2" more than how the coils came set on all four corners.
Here is how it sat after the springs settled

I have an Eibach front sway on soft setting, stock rear bar, 225/255 RE71R's and damping set right in the middle and the ride is not really that harsh except for on really crappy roads. Here in Michigan we have probably the worst oreads in the country. On sharp/fast bumps it is a little jarring but not bad at all for an aftermarket coilover. It's lost a little bit of compliance but it feels so much more planted.
I recently did an autocross with them and really liked the results. The car felt very different and it will take me some time to re-learn but there is so much less body roll.
Here's a pic of a mid 2nd gear 90deg turn on stock suspension plus the FSB
And here's a pic of a high 2nd gear 90deg turn with the coils and FSB
I did notice that the car was a little more tail happy than before but it could have just been because it was 57 degrees outside haha. I won't have a chance to use them on the track until spring but I'll update after I go.
Since I'm not a veteran racer or super savvy in that area, and have only driven them on the street and one cold weather autocross, I can't really give them a performance review... But initial impressions are that they are going to be just fine for mixed street, autox and track use. I'll update in the spring.

Beautiful! And thanks for the writeup, Ham8urger. Did you compare the max height relative to the stock setup? You stated you lowered an additional 0.5" from the default setting.

sorry for the delay, I havent checked this thread since fall. But to answer your question, I did not compare max height relative to stock. I'm sure they will be close to stock height if raised all the way up. And you have enough adjustability with these to slam a car too
