Caliper advice please

Default Caliper advice please

My front drivers side caliper has seized, so I am looking to get another one. This leads me on to my questions.

1) I need a caliper ASAP as my car is my Daily, I was thinking of buying a cheap one from eurocar parts. Are they are same spec as the originals? Will it do the job for a week or two?

2) I would like to get the orignal caliper refurbished, I don't know where to go. Does anyone have any suggestions? As I don't want to buy a new one from Honda.

My car is a 07 and it is 31k miles, I guess I just got unlucky..

Any suggestions are highly appreciated.

Plenty of info about calipers if you do a search. EP3/FN2 calipers can be used if you're struggling (Calipers, not carriers).

Have a gander in Forum Favourites.

I brought home a load of part numbers from different suppliers/remanufacturers.

Go into a local motor factor armed with these numbers and you should get some good deals

Ive purchased 2 front calipers and a rear caliper for mine in the time ive had it a d been to eurocarparts every time. They are refurbed nissin calipers so cant go wrong really. If you order on ebay from eurocarparts they are slightly cheaper and no surcharge

Oem calipers are nissins so nope no differeence

Just to clarify.

You can only buy new OEM parts from a Honda Dealer. The calliper will include a new carrier, pins etc.

If you buy from a motor factor or other source, they will be OEM items which have been refurbished, and will only include the calliper but not the carrier or pins etc.

If you send your existing calliper off to be refurbished, you can get the carriers done as well. I have used a company called "Bigg Red" whose details are here: http://www.biggred.co.uk/ The process takes a few weeks so may not be ideal for you, unless you want to take the bus.

I hope that helps.

You won't be able to tell the difference between them, other than the effect on your wallet and the shininess of your carriers.

To add to that - I bought a set of refurbed calipers and carriers...

They look subtly different to the ones on my car.

If it's a daily driver, can you not simply un-seize it for the time being?

I've had years out of them, simply by cleaning under the boot & winding fully back in with fresh pads.

I had already tried winding the calipers back, it got an extra 2 days.
