Default 2014/15 VW Golf R

Hello chaps,

On the lookout for the replacement to the S2k and was just wondering if anyone has driven or has any experience of the Golf R? It has 300hp and 4WD which sounds pretty mental, the paper figures are insane, 0-60 in less than 5s and enough space for 5 adults and the weekly shop! Sounds like a brutal car and a worthy successor to the S2k despite all the driver aids and FREDs on it!

Thoughts?

Graham

It was established as the cheapest lease car in the history of cars, since the second batch of the model t ford. Consequently everybody who has leased a vehicle in the united kingdom now has one of these.

The upshot of this is that every man, woman and child with internet access now drives a golf r. Last count I think C 3,7billion had been provided on personal or business lease schemes and private contract plans.

Too many threads on Golfs will get us the ban hammer!!

FWIW it was avail for a about £220-£240 a month on lease 12-18 months ago. Simply too cheap, then VW stepped in and put a stop to that. Although at around £270 - £290 a month now, its still a bargain for that market. Phil has one, and raves about it's ability to get down the road rather quickly.

Mate in Canadia just bought one

To compare it to the S is plain daft though. Its not a raw, droptop engineering marvel its a hatch with a massive turbo and soft touch plastics

that pretty much sums it up.

Had mine for a couple of months now, 1500 miles in, it still feels quick and effortlessly so. Is nothing like the S or other high revving NA cars I've owned and as the first turbo car, leaves me a little cold. It's not exciting in a mechanical kind of way, but you cannot ignore how effective it is.

It's everything we want / need form a family car, whilst capable of embarrassing much more expensive machinery. Not sure what if any lease deals are available now, but I was lucky to get one at the silly end of the spectrum which makes it all the more smiles per mile.

I don't regret it for a moment, for the money (lease) there was nothing comparable.

It's a nice car, all you expect from a VAG product, nothing more, nothing less. capable, a little boring, polished. As others will say, the Golf 7 does seem to be a decent effort in the sector.

Given the choice, I'd have the 135i all day long, but wasn't an option for me at the time.

Glorified shopping trolley. You really need at least 400bhp for a daily driver if you want any kind of bragging rights. M3s were knocking out 321bhp in 1997. It's a horrible little turbo four cylinder as well.

Racing someone on the road is embarrassing, no matter what the car.
