I have had a noise coming from the drivers side rear wheel and had gradually got worse and I am wondering if anyone has had a similar issue before.

Noise is only present when going forwards.
Noise does not happen when i jack the rear wheels up and spin the wheels by hand and also by putting it in gear.
Noise goes away when under load (bit of throttle).
Noise goes quieter when i turn right.

I have checked for any stones caught in the disc against the heat shields and also changed discs and pads as they were due anyway.

Diff oil got changed about 1k miles ago the proper viscosity rating oil.

I am going to drop the diff oil to check for any metal particles along with tightening up the hub nut to see if that cures it.

Ryan9 has listened to it and I got Ron coming over one evening to give me his opinion but wondering if anyone else has had the same issue.

It dose sound bad,

it dosent sound like metal on metal to me could be a dried out hub bearing, split cv boot ( no grese left in it ), take the wheel off and check for anything catching the wheel / tyre you should see rotation marks if its catching on anything also check the cv boots for splits or rotation marks

CV boot has not split, we have checked around the area visually and nothing obvious has been seen.

sounds rubbery plastic not metal grinding if that makes sense... very unusual...

Your sure of it being O/S rear?

Had a good look around the rear driveshafts? There's nothing caught down there is there?

I presume you've taken the wheels off and had a good visual inspection of every rotating component?

I had a similar noise and it was a build up of rust and crud on the half shaft rubbing on stuff.

Gave the hub nut a bit of a tighten, was only able to move it about 1/8th of a turn but seemed to have solved the noise.

Really? Does this not perhaps suggest you've masked a problem rather than find it... collapsed wheel bearing? Something else?

That was a HELL of a noise for hub nut being an 8th of a turn loose. And how did it get that loose anyway? Are they not staked / locked?
