Default Is there a demand for knock sensors

So I'm not being held to ransom by Honda for a new knock sensor and I'm not comfortable with using a Chinese copy sensor without them being proven to be of the same specification.

I've ordered a handful of copies and am in the process of setting up a test bench with the intention of testing the accuracy of the sensors both in range of detection frequency and sensitivity. I may find that none of them come close to the Honda unit or they may turn out to all be the same.

Would there be any interest in fully proven and certified replacements at a fraction of the cost of the Honda item?

This isn't a group buy thread I'm merely gauging interest in whether people would be interested in using a less expensive sensor if it can be proven to operate the same as the genuine one, if not I'll just get a few for myself, if so then I'll set up the appropriate thread if I can find one that works well enough.

There will certainly be a lot of interest in how they compare when new however what you won't be able to do is test them when they have been on the engine for a few years going through heat cycles etc. They might be spot on when new but over time the reliablity of the cheaper sensor could be questioned.

For me i would rather pay for a genuine item (yes for a lot more money) knowing its produced to a certain quality standard and has been tested, for an engine to fail due to a failing knock sensor would be gutting.

The F20C was the first JDM Honda engine to actually have a knock sensor anyway.

A knock sensor is just a microphone. If you mod your car, change the intake, fit a different exhaust, you are already reducing the capability of the sensor.

Bottom line, unless you run your S2000 on sh1t fuel from the third world, you'll never get knock.

JDM B16s had them.

UK version didn't, at least in the 3g civic and CRX that was the case.

No, JDM version of the B engine did NOT have a knock sensor.

Would you be willing to place a wager on that say £135, enough to cover the cost of a knock sensor for my S2000?

I can tell you that they did because there are several of us that have first hand experience of the OBD0 Honda ECUs and playing with the code and the PWO-000 which is the JDM version of the B16 ECU has an extra board internally which is for the knock sensor, the euro ECu which is the PWO-E00 didn't have this board.

Couple that with the fact that I have had 13 CRXs to date one that I imported from Japan myself and one that I bought as a recent import both Jap spec models and both had knock sensors.

A quick root around on Google will prove my point.

I couldn't find anything conclusive regarding the JDM B16A1 other than the Americans (USDM) have knock sensors.

OBD1/2 EG/DC2/EK didn't have them.

I searched for:
JDM CRX Knock sensor
CRX SiR Knock sensor
Japanese CRX knock sensor
JDM B16A1 knock sensor
Japanese B16A1 Knock sensor
Integra XSi knock sensor
Civic SiR knock sensor

Please post your sources.

Thanks
