Default Can The Bumper Be Repainted?

I'm interested in buying a 2004 S2 but when I asked about any repairs I was told the bumper was repainted because of some parking lot scratches.
???
I didn't know bumpers could be repainted since they're plastic.
Is this normal for the S2?

Get out of that shop, Yes they can be painted, try to find a shop painting with PPG Paint, if you can find one that shoots water based paint, and get them to use either 3000, or 4000 PPG clear. It will last you.

Thanks Z.

The car is being sold by a local seller on Kijiji (Craigslist for Canada)
I never heard of a plastic bumper being repainted.
I know no one will do my current car...a Miata.

How do you think they get to be the same color as the car to begin with? They get painted.

OK...
Then why won't any shop repaint my MX5 bumper?

Any body shop that repairs cars routinely repaints plastic bumpers---they have to---virtually every car on the market today has plastic bumpers and the replacement bumpers all come from the factory black and the body shop has to paint it to match the car.....

If its done by a good shop, it'll last the life of the car..

Maybe you have a color that is hard to color match the rest of the car

I ran into this problem. What it means is the particular painter wants to paint a new bumper; an already primed bumper. Less work for them to do. Or they charge outrageous sum to sand old bumper for repaint. I went to 3 shops before i found 1 that agreed to do it at a fair price

Sometimes it costs more time work and money to prep a damaged bumper for paint where it would look halfway decent than just ordering a factory painted or primed bumper.. Never heard of someone not being able to paint urethane though.. hahah that's a new one. I mean ive heard fiberglass a few times but not urethane that has to be one of the most common materials used today in car body parts if I had to guess.
