Catalytic converter
Hi guys
My catalytic converter is dead, so need a new one. I have 3 options:
OEM ebay 100 pounds new
Original second hand ~150 off ebay
Berk high flow 250 new off ebay
The mechanic says not to go with the oem ones as they cause a lot of issues
If this is the case I would rather just go with a high flow cat, but its significantly more expensive than oem.
What is your experience and what would you recommend.

OEM means Original Equipment Manufacturer. Presumably these cheap eBay ones are precisely not OEM...
I've heard only bad things about cheap copies, both in terms of fitment and longevity.
Second hand option I'd want to know the mileage of the car It came off of (not that this is any guarantee)
I recently fitted a Berk HFC and am happy.

My car arrived without any cat, so I found myself in a similar position.
Anything claiming to be an OEM cat and costing less than £1,000 ore so is either a VERY cheap knock off, or is stolen. Honda quaoted me well in excess of £900 plus shipping, VAT and import duty for a proper one.
I now have the Berk hi flow, which I got here: http://www.s2ktuning.co.uk/Exhaust.html
The only valid choice, IMO is between 63.5mm and 70mm...

I have an invoice from the previous owner of my car for a new CAT fitted by Kwik Fit April '13 for £355.75 (this includes VAT).
Sounds like typical Honda silly prices to me at £900 and you are paying for their logo on it.

Not sure about the infamous MOT or other annual inspection/requirement but if a visual inspection is required the high flow may not pass just 'cuz it looks different.
I welded tabs on my Berk high flow and put the OEM heat shields over it. The starboard floor gets hot enough with the heat shield in place to consider running without one. Whispers of melted carpet have been heard.

No issues with high temps either.

Good to know! I do need to feel the floor after a good drive. "Whispers" as noted.
No problems passing emissions with my Berk cat either but our testing is simply hooking up to the ODD2 port for a minute or two. Self-service kiosk makes it easy -- other than getting under the dash to plug in! If one drives into the test station they check under the car for a cat. My big 5.4 liter Ford Expedition got a "not ready" test last spring but I'd just had the fuel pump replaced and the battery had been disconnected for a couple of days. Took it back the next weekend and she passed all tests. Ohio only tests 7 counties, the other 81 don't get tested.
