FYI, this is what the engine VIN looks like, minus the last four digits. This photo was snapped with the engine lowered during a clutch job.

Straight down and centered on the bottom of the head just above where it meets the block.

-Back of cylinder head (VIN)
-right front of transmission bell housing (VIN)
-left front top corner of engine block (engine serial)
-white sticker on timing cover (Engine serial)

That's it.

Have you ever seen the green plate missing from the block?

There is no green plate on the block, only the cylinder head.

If the green plate is missing, it means a cylinder head or possible entire engine was replaced.
