Tempted to buy a cheap winter warrior,like a cheap civic/golf or something. Maybe even an old Gen 6 Celica, as they are cheap and built like tanks (had a gen 7 before the S)..

My S has been great so far, even in the wet I've never had any troubles or scares (running Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2). But reading all the horror stories about people losing their cars during the winter, I'm starting to think about getting a second car and swapping the insurance to that car every winter.

Does anyone else do this?

Yes you'll find a lot of owners on here get a winter beater. Swapping the insurance is not such an easy option as even if the S is SORN'ed you will still need third party insurance, and that's probably not much cheaper than fully comp. A few hundred quid on something with an MOT could even make you a few quid when you sell it on.

Its an option im considering at the moment.

Id be looking at around £400-500 for a second set of wheels and winter tyres for the s2000, and there is always the risk of still binning it.

Could put that money towards a cheap winter beater, not care about it and sell it on come the spring. Also saves any possible damage/corrosion due to salt on the road.

Use my Polo for work,Mc2 1.8 VTI for evenings and S2000 for dry conditions
like last night,one of the only other cars on the road was a white S2000 ,what are the chances !!

I'd definitely consider it. But rather than swapping insurance, which could get expensive with all the admin fees, I'd start a new policy else won't you loose the NCB on the S?

I've just got a new car for winter duties (brand new 208GTi on a lease) and did a multi-car policy. The overall annual cost went from £405 to £574. Reducing the estimated mileage on the S2000 certainly helps lower that part of the premium.

I'd say so

I've had my Octavia 1.9 TDI MK2 now for about 7 months and it's saved me a fair bit of coin and kept nearly 600 miles a week of the S2000.

Hmm I might look into it more then! Forgot about that stupid new law with third party insurance. It would be sorn'd on a military base, hardly going to be touched!

Anyway, what cars would people recommend? Ideally no more than £2000-£2500...

I'm struggling to find anything to top my Golf v6 4motion as my winter car, clutch can be expensive to sort out as can Haldex 4wheel drive, but the engine is bullet proof. Can be picked up for well within your budget - ideally with the desirable Santa Monica alloys, heated leather and Xenons
