We are pleased to announce our latest product, S2000 Brake Cooling Kit. Wasp backing plates were made with stainless steel in earlier versions and after listening to our customers' feedback and our own track tests, it has now evolved to its final version. WASP kit is the only one on the market with the correct design, end of the duct should point directly toward the center of the rotor. Don't make the mistake of pointing it at the caliper or the side of the rotor, as this can cause more harm than good. A brake disc is designed to be cooled outward from the center. When the car is rolling, the directional cooling vanes inside the rotor pull air from the center of the disc and force it out. So providing a steady stream of cool air to the center of the rotor cools the entire disc. Also, sealing the back to force air into the center of the rotor and holding it there will greatly increase the system's cooling efficiency.

A cooler rotor also keeps the caliper cooler, increases the life of the pad and rotor. we warn against blowing air directly against the side of the disc because this only cools that side while the opposite side stays hot. The difference in temperature between one side of the rotor and the other can cause warping and cracking.

If we were going to bring the kit back we had to make sure it was as light and strong as possible while making it easy to install. It didn't take much to realize that we needed to get our hands busy with solidworks software and 3D printed test models.

we started with a hand made model to drawing and finally a 3D model in order to confirm fitment before CNC machining the mold out of aluminum. Meanwhile we ran multiple tests on and off the track with both street and race pads in order to choose the correct pre-preg carbon fiber to ensure safety of our customers. multiple heat sensitive strips (THERMAX) were placed as shown in picture below and we did 10 runs of back to back braking from 80mph to 20mph. race pads as expected created higher temp at 250F while street pads maxed out at 200F where the backing plate sits inside the rotor. With the data collected, it was time to choose the correct pre-preg carbon fiber with adequate Tg (Glass transition temprature).

The Glass Transition Temperature (Tg) is one of the most important properties of any
epoxy and is the temperature region where the polymer transitions from a hard, glassy material
to a soft, rubbery material. As epoxies are thermosetting materials and chemically cross-link
during the curing process, the final cured epoxy material does not melt or reflow when heated
(unlike thermoplastic materials), but undergoes a slight softening (phase change) at elevated
temperatures. As an epoxy returns to ambient temperatures, its strength profile is typically restored.

After consulting with our friend at SpaceX who was in charge of designing the split mold and materials, we decide to use an epoxy with 350F Tg and aluminum mold.

Next step was to build an oven with ramp and soak capabilities, silicone inserts and making few pieces to test fit.

Next piece of the puzzle was to make the heat (dust) shields for oem application. we modified the oem heat shields slightly with an opening to slide over the hub and also for backing plate to go through.

Where are the intake ducts mounted, I assume the front bumper. Any pics of the intake duct installed?

Can I get a quote for an AP2 kit (185mm?) with the heat shields shipped to 30082?

Also please provide a turnaround time, the feedback on WASP's timing and communication is pretty terrible on this site.

Thanks!

Interested in an oem AP1 kit, no heat shield, shipped to 98072. Can't find this product on Nightmotorsport's or Wasp Composite's web sites. Is this product still available?
