Default Smoking engine after rebuild

Hello. Just picked up my first s2k yesterday. On a way home I've been told that it smokes quite a bit in vtec. Previous owner had an engine rebuild in a shop. I will attach the receipt for you to look at. Could someone tell me please, is it normal or they messed up somewhere?

Blue smoke, white smoke or black smoke?

Unless you were booting it when stone cold (which you shouldn't) and it was just condensation it's not normal for it to smoke.

How did the engine fail previously and what damage was there?

Any smoke from a rebuilt engine should fade after a few miles as the contaminants burn away.... That's some serious open heart surgery right there!! Hope all is OK for you.

Blue smoke - oil
White smoke - water
Black smoke - hmmm a number of things

Probably cheap mineral oil to help bed the rings in. You don't put decent synthetic oil in straight after a rebuild.

It's a red s2k with hardtop. Mansfield engine centre.
Don't know what was the reason for rebuilt. Been told because of the high mileage by previous owner.
It has covered 2k milES since then and had one oil change in the same garage.
By my gf words it was white blueish. But definitely a smoke not condensation. Never would rev high on a cold engine.
Will check the smoke colour again.
I have already ordered castrol edge 5w40 just for piece of sake.
What would you recommend to check - valve clearances, etc.?
Also recommendations on capable garages in Cambridge/ Peterborough area?

Tdi north are amazing and will sort it out no problems. I've spoken to them at BTCC previous they are very knowledgeable!! If I couldn't book in With Romain at Eurospec to remap mine, I was going to book at tdi north. Give them a call....

I'd like to think the valves were checked as part of a rebuild anyway! Changing the pistons, polishing the crank etc etc you'd think the valves clearance check would be done as they don't want them smashing into pistons at 9000rpm!!!

These engines can be a tough one to get right when rebuilding.... I'd just have tdi north have it for a week and see what the deal is from them if it were me.

I've heard good things about tdi north. But they are quite far away and can't really leave the car with them for a week as I commute daily.
