Default Copying Key Without Copying Transponder Chip

Hi All,

I bought a 51 reg S2000 3 weeks ago. It's come with only 1 set of keys (key and remote fob).

I understand that I can buy a Hamilton Palmer remote fob from eBay and program it myself using my existing fob, so that's fine.

With regards to copying the key, that's more of a hassle due to the transponder chip. Timpson's aren't able to copy the transponder chip, so it looks like a dealer only job, which is going to get costly, even though I've found cheap blank keys - http://www.amazon.com/Ignition-Trans.../dp/B006FSUFX8

So, thinking out of the box - how about, I make two copies of my existing key, but don't get the transponders copied? I secure my good key to the inside of the steering column... then I can use my copied, transponder-less keys.

What do we all think? It's a bit of a bodge, but I can't think why it won't work.

Thanks,

Ed

your insurance may have something to say about that...

your keys are supposed to be secured at all times, and you are insured based on your car having a cat-1 alarm/immobiliser which you have just bypassed..

Wouldnt want to be making a claim on that basis.?

Why not find out how much a new key would be from Honda? It may not be as much as you think.

Alternatively, if you type "s2000 uk key replacement" into Google, you'll get lots of companies offering programmed keys

Wow if its only £20 to program it, that would be great. Buying the bey and getting it cut is cheaply done away from Honda labour rates lol.

That's great to hear! I'll give Crown garage a call to check that they can do this for a similar price.

Thanks for your help.

Bleedin' o'vious Alert:

Google Auto Locksmith.

Mine cut me a key & flashed the transponder & dropped it in. I've known my guy years, but we're probably a bit far away...
