Default Engine Sounds

Hi guys - could do with some advice please.

Recently I've noticed my engine sounds very different following a cold start and when warm. It also seems louder that my friends S2K. Just checking if it's something I should be worried about.
My car is an '04 with 95k miles. Air filter cover removed, has K&N filter installed. No other engine mods. Only other mod is UK exhaust mod.

So here's the cold start: (recorded immediately after star up)

Here's following a drive with engine warm:

Any advice would be much appreciated.

On the cold start it just sounds like the secondary air pump working. This is used on cold starts and it blows air into the exhaust manifold to help with cat warmup (sort of blowing air onto a fire makes it burn hotter effect)
It's completely normal for it to be running on cold startup, and you may notice an increased idle while it is running.

If your car is running a test pipe / De-cat then it's pretty useless it being on, so there is a guide here:

To remove it.

Hope that helps!

Ah I see thank you.

It was more the warm engine sounds that I was concerned about. Do you notice anything out of the ordinary in the second video?

That sounds ok to me to be honest, may benefit from having the valve clearances checked, but other than that nothing to alarm me. These are not the quietest of engines.

haha no, im an engineer by trade. you could also use a long screwdriver or thin bit of wood if you dont have a stethoscope at hand
