Default Corrosion / Calcium on engine

After the flooding in SC, my car sat for a long time under a cover (that apparently didn't breathe well) and when I popped the hood I found a good bit of calcium chalky type Powder on the block and intake manifold, as well as alternator and other aluminum under the hood.

Should I be concerned with anything specifically with this?

Any advice on how to clean it?

Thanks,
C

It is funny that you ask this and even funnier that you are in Columbia, as my car did the exact same thing. I have it under a very nice Noah cover by Covercraft and all my nuts and bolts look terrible. I haven't tried anything drastic yet, but the corrosion seems to be pretty stubborn.

Yep, I'm a bit north of you in Chapin. The nuts and bolts are bad... especially the valvecover ones. I'll probably just replace with black PWDJDM ones.

CLR, q-tips, small stiff-bristled brush, and shop air to dry it...

That was going to be my last resort...to just start replacing them. The underside looks like a beach car now too. Oh the joy.

CLR seems like a great idea. I'll give it a shot.

Haven't crawled under it yet but I'm hoping it's not too bad... I'm gonna be cycling out my fluids soon, and trying to get it all cleaned back up. It used to be spotless... now I work 220-260 hours a month on rotating days and nights... zero time for hobbies

I tried the CLR with no luck. Granted, I applied it to a rag and wiped the bolts instead of scrubbing, but usually CLR works on contact.

I dunno, this may be a long shot. but when water evaporates sometimes it will leave a white residue called everflences (spelling). You can see it on brick walls of homes or old warehouses.

Maybe try and pic up a product to remove that and test it out.

Like I said its a long shot, but its worth a try
