Default Notchy Steering

Car is a 2002 with 38K recently developed a notchy feel when turning left or right then goes away in a few minutes. Car has been in Florida it's whole life and is garaged kept. Never raced or any accidents. Problem stated awhile ago and has not gone away. Could this be caused by not being driven or maybe a bad EPS? Been doing a lot of reading and the people with is problem replaced the Torque Sensor and that fixed the issue. Car drives great after a few minutes so I do not believe it's mechanical. Anyone else have this issue?

Thanks

Turn the steering lock to lock with the engine off, key in ignition. See if the notchy sensation still occurs without power. That might tell you if it is a bad suspension part, or an electronic issue with the EPS/Torque sensor. Do it in a garage so you can hear any binding that might be occurring with suspension parts, you can do it with the wheels on the ground and also with the front wheels jacked up in the air.

Does it fix itself once warmed up? Usually worse at night/when its cold? I think its the grease in the sensor. I made a simple write up of it a while back...

Thanks for the reply and I might try this or just replace the Torque Sensor but I need to remove it first. I have the factory repair manual and basically it states line everything up and remove the two bolts and remove the sensor. There are allot of posts stating you must get a special tool and remove the rack alignment assembly. Since you have removed your torque sensor do you have to mess with the rack alignment?

Thanks

Replied to you on PM but replying again for whoever digs this up:

I didn't loosen the large bolt, I read about it in the DIY too. It might help release some tension on the helical sensor gears but I was able to rotate the sensor out with no problem.
