Default Friendly reminder to check your cabin filter!

I bought the car in October 2014 from Car Max and I've only put ~4,0000 miles on it so I'm guessing this is most likely the OEM filter from when the car was made!

They get dirty pretty fast. I put in a new one a year ago and it's probably due for a new one already. I got the dealer in Bend to come to a close price match to Rockauto so I got two at the time for pretty cheap.

Realistically, I'm top down most of the time so the cabin filter doesn't give me any gains necessarily haha.

I should really at least inspect the one in mine now. I have a feeling it'll be blacker than my soul, though

It's located underneath the cover cowl on the passenger side. You'll have to remove some of the insert tabs for the weather seal but it's relatively easy if you push the tabs from below and up - you should only need to remove 3-4 tabs.

Here's an image of where it's located:

Here's a video that might help:

And I bought the cabin filter replacement from HandA, it's in their maintenance section - cost $20:

Picked up my car with 34k on the ticker. and my cabin filer looked like this

which was rather surprising cause the rest of the cars fluid/filters were mint.

All the fluids are sealed and not exposed to the air.
The other filters tend to have less exposure as well (i.e. intake filters are inside the engine bay). The cabin filter is pulling air in from the one of the worst spots for trapping debris - the gap between the windshield and the hood.

Thanks for posting this. I had no idea about this and mine was toast. Wish I could just post the image rather than a link.
