Default Shoes?

I'm almost embarrassed to bring this up, but I've found that driving Jessica is highly dependent on the type of shoe I'm wearing.

I was driving to work the other day wearing some Timberland deck shoes (like a Topsider). A school bus had stopped on the road ahead of me so I had to stop. Of course it was on a fairly steep incline. I'm an old hand at this stuff and put on the parking brake to hold the car in place. When the lights of the bus went off, I wanted to accelerate briskly so as to get out from behind it before the next kiddie stop.

Well, in doing so the heel of my shoe caught in the floor mat and I slipped the clutch in a BIG, smelly way. Car went right to redline before I realized it and had to correct my foot placement on the clutch, but by then the damage was done. The clutch smelled the whole rest of the way to work. It doesn't seem to have done any lasting damage, but it definitely was not good for long term longevity of the plate.

Anyway it got me thinking about the shoes I wear when I drive the car.

The one's that I know don't work well are both my pairs of boots. I've got a pair of Lucchese and a pair of Justin boots and the heels on them is a non-starter in driving Jessica. And obviously, I need to add my deck shoes.

I'm also rather embarrassed to admit that the shoes I find most suitable for driving the car are a pair of non-perforated Croc's that I bought forever ago. They grip all the pedal surfaces well, don't slip around and are wide enough to make heel and toeing simple.

So I'm throwing this out,

What shoes work, or don't work for you?

cheers,

Any bulky shoes like ski boots or snow shoes. Just joking, but I find that sneakers, loafers, casual beach shoes, no flip flops work ok.

I agree! I have some of both. But some of the Pilotis are very stiff. My Pumas are a bit softer and well worn in. The Pilotis heels are rolled up on the back so as not to catch on any floorboard surfaces.

I don't like to drive my Vette wearing flip flops, although I sometimes get lazy and do it. I'm always afraid that my foot will slip off the clutch pedal, which hasn't happened, or that a flip flop will get tangled up around the clutch or brake pedal, which has happened. When you're trying to control 460 hp, it just isn't a wise thin g to do.

Lands End driving Moc's! The only shoe I've worn in the S since discovering them years ago. Thin soles let you feel everything. Reinforced toes and heels for defeating mat and pedal wear. My Piloti's are just too stiff.
