Default Ebay DIY Roof install?

After 17 years my plastic screen finally gave up! Thought I'd warmed it through enough, but obviously not as the hardtop is now back on.

Going to attempt a temporary fix with tent repair tape and look to replace the roof. I can't really be arsed with waiting a month for a trip to Jack Smiths so was going to purchase an eBay mohair roof for £395 from a seller called mazda_hood_shop and fit it myself.

Are there any specialist tools required for the job? I've read a few DIY threads on removing the roof but not seen any for actually removing/replacing the roof from the frame.

Also has anyone had any experiences or top tips (good/bad) from doing a DIY roof install? I know it's not a short job but it doesn't look difficult.

Planning on doing mine DIY and found this guide to be one of the best out there https://www.s2ki.com/s2000/topic/448...a-robbins-top/ with handy pdf version too.

For that money you could get a Monsoon hood http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/271327192094 and DIY too

I fitted a monsoon hood to mine myself over a bank holiday weekend. You're right, it's not a hugely difficult task, but it took me probably 15 hours to do in total. Part of that was due to the fact that I cut the tensioning cables when I was removing, rather than unthreading them from the old roof, so I had to make new ones.

My advice though, go and buy a big back of rivets and various sized washers because the ones supplied by Monsoon weren't always long enough. Make sure the metal 'fold over bar' attached to the roof mechanism is FULLY folded down, as mine punched a hole in my brand new roof when it was only slightly lifted.

Get a digital camera and take a sh*t load of pictures, before, during and after, especially when it comes to the route that the hood parts take over the roof bars.

Buy a 90 degree ratchet screwdriver. You will only use it twice but it will be worth it. I got one of eBay for £4

Buy a set of plastic trim removal tools if you don't already own them.

Expect to break 25% of the trim clips you remove. Again, eBay is the answer. I can't for the life of me remember which bits you will need. I found myself fitting the ones I wouldn't be able to get at again, and then going on eBay to buy the ones where the holes were still exposed.

The link above is the exact link I followed. Printed it out and ticked off EVERY step as I went along. A laptop helped too though for the pictures that didn't print out perfectly.

Hope this helps

Cheer for the tips - I have already built a war chest of 4mm and 5mm pop rivets, neoprene washers, stainless washers, etc. but good to have the heads-up on the other problem areas.
