Default Hard Top hoist

http://www.force4.co.uk/harken-4-poi...g#.V4dJs1clfq0

Long story short; moving to the country and worried about rodents gnawing through my hardtop storage bag (that hangs on a wall) and nesting in the hardtop. This system looks like a possible solution as per this US post: https://www.s2ki.com/s2000/topic/863...hardtop-hoist/

Anybody used one of these systems this side of the pond?

I'm also thinking about this for the same reasons. This one is a lot cheaper @ £ 35. http://www.moss-europe.co.uk/hardtop-hoist.html

Thanks for that - looks like these are specific for the MX5 (I don't know if that will be an issue?). The thing I liked about the version I linked to was the automatic pully brake (I'd be bound to have an accident without that).

I've also been wondering about the comment in the American thread about the "window separating". The thing is, all the weight is in the window and I'm not sure how well the hardtop would balance if the hoist is attached in front of the window. Maybe, a supporting frame of some sort is needed as well (made out of plastic water waste pipes maybe?).

If you are worried about the same issue I am another tip I have had, for storing smaller items, is to buy some ammo boxes from an army surplus shop (metal and waterproof).

I checked with Moss some time ago and the hoist is not specific to the MX5 and they can't see why it shouldn't work on the S2000, it's just a matter of adjusting the hoist to get the c of g correct so the hard top lifts squarely

Are you installing this anytime soon (I don't move until September)?

Moss emailed me the instructions. The straps are easily adjusted to allow the centre of the lift to be moved along the hard top to find the point of balance allowing for the weight of the rear screen so the hard top is kept flat.

I've been looking at this some more. I'm not sure the MX5 hoist is such a good idea (single suspension attachment point and no solution for taking load off the glass), or the Harken system (load on the glass again possibly). This site has an S2000 specific hoist (note how the load is taken under the middle of the roof with a specially made foam covered aluminium tube). The only problem is it's an American site and they may not ship here. http://www.roadstersolutions.com/page192.html

By the time you have paid shipping and tax it could possibly be very expensive.
Maybe a group buy! I would be interested depending on price.

I'll let you know where I end up on this - the USA option could be £250 by the time UK customs have had an arm and a leg put of it. I might also investigate buying some aluminium tube and pipe insulation and making my own (I wouldn't be able to bend the tube but could glue on a 35 degree plastic 40mm waste pipe under the insulation). You can seem to be able to buy pulleys and rope etc, etc from chandlers shops.

According to the information on the link that you provided they do ship internationally. A hoist, either a manual or electrical, is easily sourced in the UK. The last thing I imported from the US was an Alloy craft diffuser and I had to pay £50 tax, I think the tax is payable on the cost of the item and shipping. Hope that you get somewhere with this.
