Default Which is the AK-47 of currently sold sports cars?

Hi, I just watched a program called "Top Ten" on History Channel. This series has programs that list the top ten in each category. In the segment, "Top Ten Rifles" at the top of the list was the AK-47. The narrator said that although ugly, the AK-47 was the best rifle in the history of mankind: simple, easy to use, reliable, unbreakable, just works and works and works without any issues.

What is the AK-47 of currently sold sports cars? It does not have to be the fastest, the most beautiful, or the most expensive. It just needs to run and run without any problems.

Right now I'm thinking the Mazda MX-5 ND. What do you think? A current sports car.

Agreed. I don't know enough about the C7, but I'd definitely lump the C5 and C6 into the category, and since the Ak-47 is an old '1947' design that has been refined over the years, it makes sense to reference the older and "simpler" chassis of the C5 and C6.

Although, I might argue for even simpler, and say miata/mx-5. As they say, the answer is always...

Edit: Having read your full post for "current" sports car, I'd say ND.

It's on my short list as an S2000 replacement when it becomes too difficult to maintain the s2k due to parts availability.

AK47 was last made circa 1959 when it was replaced with the AKM but I get the idea.

You're looking for a car with tractor-like construction, easy to stamp out by the millions, highly inaccurate, and heavy?

Don't forget, "the noisiest SOB on the field." So, make it a Corvette with open pipes.

I strongly disagree with this analogy! The Corvette is the AR15, the Jeep Wrangler is the Ak47. There can be no AK47 of sports cars, since the AK47 is the solid axle, body on frame, off-road, rubber carpet of the firearm world.

Even works under water.

Hmm. Maybe the original Beetle is the AK47 of the sports car world?

I can get on board with that, but I maintain that the Corvette is clearly the AR15. Haha.

? It's not even a thirty caliber. Got to be 30 caliber, at least, to match with the V8.
