Default Coilovers or Springs

Decided to do something in regards to the suspension but I'm still undecided as to what to do.

If I go for the coilovers option, I'd only want a set of ohlins or nitrons which are £££ and the full works with roll centre adjusters driveshaft spacers ect or do I go for a set of spoon springs on a set of low mileage OEM dampers?

I want to go on the occasional track day and maybe a yearly trip to the ring and I know a full coilovers setup is a bit extreme for that but I'm unsure in the idea of chucking a set of springs on the dampers. I've always assumed that there more for show than function and didn't want to upset the handling of the car.

Just wondering what other people's views where

You don't need "the full works" with coilovers, especially if they are decent ones, just limit the ride height change to something sensible.

Having said that, the car as standard is fine for the odd track day, really.

I've been going round this dilemma for the last month or 2 myself... just last week I ended up plumping for Eibach springs on Koni dampers. For me and from what I've read it works out as the best value option for the kind of driving you describe, which sounds similar to my own - spoon seem overpriced for what they are and coilovers felt like overkill for me (obviously only IMO - I was nearly convinced that bilsteins were the answer, but I reasoned with myself that if I wasn't going to ever exploit their potential, they seemed too much for my needs).

Now, I've only had the Koni/eibachs on for 2 days, but after a first drive round some of Surrey's a and b roads, its a noticeable improvement over my tired old OEM dampers and springs (not surprising perhaps, but pleased that I didn't have my teeth rattling out). I'm taking a trip up to scotland at the end of the week so I guess that'll be the proper test!

Just my 2 cents...

yeah I saw your for sale thread, that's what made me think about it.

DDC, it will be good to hear how you get on. I need to change the bushes and replace the front castor bolts. I got the geometry done the other day but the offside front was seized so he set them equal for now. Didn't realise how expensive they are!

I rode in an s2000 with HKS coilovers and they were totally different to standard suspension. I always thought the oem suspension was sporty and capable enough but now want the same set of hks coilovers if ever i have spare cash. It was low but the ride was smooth - never harsh.
