Honda dealer unable to identify source of leak - suggestions?
Hi Guys,
After parking my 2003 S2k up in the garage after a fairly hard 10 mile run Thursday night last week I noticed spatters of wet liquid at about 1 metre gaps when walking back to my house from the garage. I turned around and went to check under my car and found this (picture was taken about 3-5 mins after parking up):
Shame about the litter but the lighter at least gives some scale to the puddle.
As you can see, the puddle is located on the left hand side of the car, just a bit behind the left wheel suspension assembly.
Being dark it was a bit hard to gauge the colour but putting my finger in it it appeared clear (my oil is also pretty clear, however) and no obvious scent to it.
The car had been engaged in VTEC for quite a bit of the drive and there was heavy braking and engine braking downshifts but the car did not smell of clutch at all.
So the next day I phoned my local Honda dealership who said they would take a look at it for me on Monday (today). When I went to my garage to drive it to the dealership this morning I had a quick look under the car and the puddle was now dry. Honda had a look at it today and they phoned me to say that they couldn't identify any obvious leaks... Which leads me to the next question, do any of you guys have any suggestions as to what it may be? My thoughts are as follows:
1. Main Seal - looking at other threads, oil seems to be dripping from around about the same area
2. Air Con Condensation - I was using the AC that night but it was only on a low setting and it was not a hot/humid night here in the UK - plus I haven't noticed it dripping before. Also the puddle mark is still on the floor in my garage, if it was just water surely it would have evaporated without leaving an evident mark?
3. VTEC Solenoid - Unlikely due to the position of the puddle, I guess the puddle would be on the right hand side of the car and more forward
4. Too much oil? The car is regularly topped up with oil, two trips before that one I topped it up to the H mark on the dipstick. Maybe too much oil could cause this when the engine is worked hard for a period of time?
Let me know your thoughts and I will pass any suggestions on to Honda tomorrow, or if you know any other mechanics who specialise in Honda S2k's around the South West area of the UK let me know and I will possibly get in touch with them if Honda are unable to solve it!
Thanks in advance,
Alec

Nearside front. No scent or colour, I'd like to say Aircon condensation being on the nearside? as there vent from the cabin is about by there. Passenger footwell. Pipe about 1/2 an inch in diameter that vents to atmosphere.

Hi Toms1989,
Thanks for the very quick reply! I have just wandered down the garage and taken two pictures.
First picture with a similar angle to the previous one as a direct comparison:
Second picture looking down for a more general view of the puddle area:
So I think we are safe to say you are correct!! Looks like it was just water as there is no obvious residue marks left in the shape of the original picture I took.
Many thanks, saved me some £££!
