Just replaced the clutch. I may have not torqued down the top starter bolt enough, but I'm not sure. Here's a video showing the symptom, please watch it. Any responses would be much appreciated.

I've already ordered a new starter due to my impatience. Just got done rebuilding the car with a lot of new parts, I drive it for one day and then this happens. It's really demoralizing. Wish I had replaced it when the car was in pieces.

Defintely sounds like the starter isn't engaged.

Are you sure you installed the starter's Bendix unit correctly? The small gear on tip of starter that engages the flywheel?

Thanks!

The only thing I removed was the top bolt. In theory, if the top bolt is not torqued down, the gear still makes contact with the flywheel. I'll find this out tomorrow when I pull it out.

Trying to figure out if that sound is the spinning of the starter motor or not.

The starter solenoid is clearly engaging.

When the starter goes out, is it usually the motor? Or the solenoid?

How would you install the bendix unit?

When I was replacing my starter, I just popped the old one out, put the new one in, connected all the wiring and I was good to go.

I have no idea, never redid a Honda S2000 starter. But, sure sounds like the starter motor is spinning, but not engaging the flywheel. This is usually Bendix issues.

There's only two bolts that hold the starter on, only one of which has to be physically present.

Sounds like start motor is spinning wheel but solenoid isn't kicking the wheel out to engage flywheel. Take starter out, and if you feel confident, bench test the starter. The likely hood of starter being bad sounds pretty small if it worked before transmission work. I know it's the worst part of the job, but torque those bolts down. Having a ultra long extension and serious patience is key!

I appreciate the responses. I bump started it and now it's back in my garage. Gonna pull the starter out. Wish they had placed it better. :/
