Oil top up - volume per x on dip stick?
#11
What's with adding oil an ounce at a time, or seeing the need to have it at the full mark all the time?
The oil level is fine anywhere between the upper and low marks. Level varies slightly with temperature. The marks will show the progress of oil use. From the 2006 owner's manual. If yours differs please let us know.

Remove the dipstick (black
handle).
Wipe off the dipstick with a clean
cloth or paper towel.
Insert it all the way back in its hole.
Remove the dipstick again, and
check the level. It should be
between the upper and lower
marks.
If it is near or below the lower mark,
see on page 143.

I suppose it depends on your maintenance strategy Chuck. We all know if the oil light comes on, it's probably too late. I don't alway remember to check oil levels frequently so always top it up to full when I do.
Mind you I change oil every 1500 - 2000 miles or after a track day.

This is a lot for an MY01 car, where it should really be checked every 600 miles or so (as per the owners' manual).

1800 miles and (as I read) in the middle of the range is good for another 1800 and certainly with no worries about the next few days. Convention in North America is there's a quart range between the top and bottom marks. This one is down a pint. No need for panic. Plenty of oil in the engine but adding a pint won't hurt even if unnecessary.

As you have a newer car, you are probably unaware of how quickly the oil level can drop in an older car, so it makes a lot of sense to keep it well topped up. Panic happens when the oil light comes on all of a sudden.

From my experience even the 06 'uses' oil - I fitted a pneumatic catch can from the PCV outlet and am always surprised at how much is in there after a race or hard driving.
Keep it checked folks, oil is relatively cheap....
(well not the oil I use but I use Nano Drive as I'm posh)

Yours would have been using it because the oil baffle plate won't allow oil to drain back quick enough. Sharp left hand turns allow oil to gather on the baffle plate, then followed by a right turn, the oil sloshes over to the right hand side of the engine (where the pcv valve and breather is) meaning your engine monches a metric tonne of oil
