RC1s vs RE71s
Was looking at getting some RC1s as a dry tire, but the more I keep researching the RE71s I am not convinced the RC1s really have a true advantage over them. I know, from a physics viewpoint, the RC1s should clearly out perform the RE71s, but the NASA points are the same and I could use them for dual wet/dry duty versus carrying two sets of wheels around for weather. They are roughly the same price, so would I just be buying a "slick" just to say I'm running "slicks?"

I am running the RE71R and the grip level out of the box really is amazing, right up there with RC1 and NT01 when brand new. I also got a chance to try them in the wet, and they're quite good at that too. But I have been quite disappointed in a few things:
1) They overheat like a street tire and get greasy after a few laps. They don't recover after overheating as well either. The RC1 and especially the NT01 are much better in that regard.
2) The performance drop off after two track days is quite significant. My current set still has around 5/32 tread left, but the grip now is really disappointing. Data log comparing my 2nd to 3rd track day shows 5 mph apex speed loss in a highly banked 65-70 mph corner where mechanical grip is tested most. Both the RC1 and NT01 have some drop off, but they maintain their grip much better.
3) They're quite noisy for a street tire, much noisier than the RC1 and maybe about as noisy as the NT01.
I personally like NT01 out of all three of them for a dedicated track tire. But if you are playing in NASA, I would just go with RC1 for the contingency. I'll keep using the RE71R as my street tire and backup wet tire, but I won't be using the RE71R again for competition. If the RE71R needs replacing as my backup street tire, I'll buy the RE71R again, do a couple track days on them, and then retire them to street/wet use only. I'll probably be running Hoosier R7's next year in TT4.

The downside to the RE71R is it will last 3 days for a quick driver.
The RE71R is also better wet. The RC1 are terrible in the wet (no tread).
I would say the RE71R is worth a half second over the NT01/RC1 on BW13CW

I'm on RE71Rs now, and am tempted to go to the RC1 depending on class sizes in TT4 locally next year, along with my competitiveness.

Not sure I can top 3 in TT4 locally depending what cars get built. Sounds like Ian's K24, and at least two F24 setups.
Not worth the extra cash to get into TTC for the one year it exists, and sounds like the s2k is going to be SOL for TT5.

RE71r is for sure a quicker tire than RC1 and NT01. My experience, I ran faster laps with RE71R. If you want to set a fast lap, id go with REs. if you want a fast tire that wont fall off, the NT01 is the best out there! I use both tires. RE71Rs dont last like an NT01 but the 1st day they stick like glue.They are called a cheater tire for a reason lol

Detune for TT5 would be my advice. Remember third place gets tires with Maxxis.
