Groaning From Rear Diff?
Ok, I tried searching but to no avail, and I sort of need some help FAST. This morning was the first time I've driven my MY00 in the snow. The car has blizzacks all around and 23k miles. The drive was alright, felt a little shaky at first but after the tires warmed up it wasn't so bad. When I got to work and was backing into a parking spot I hear a "groan" of sorts from the rear end... It ALMOST sounded like the brakes were "on" so I checked my ebrake and nope... I have no idea what it could be. I turned the car off and the normal engine clicks started, but the rear ALSO began clicking- quite loudly every few seconds. Is this normal? Any idea what could be going on. Please help Im at work and need to know if I need to leave and get it taken care of.

I drove the car up the road and back a couple times and did not hear the noise again- could this have come from built up snow under there somewhere? Regardless no noise= good noise haha

Anyway, I take it you haven't driven in snow much on real snow tires. I firmly believe what you were hearing was the sound of snow being compacted under your tires. That ticking is most likely the sound of your exhaust system cooling down.
Relax!

Congras...for driving in the snow the first time. That's only one of the many things when you're driving in the snow. haha.
P.S. Remember not to brake or hard brake when you're loose traction.

Braking is not nearly as frightening as over throttling on this car or any car with ABS. In fact, slamming the brakes on and activating the ABS is probably the best way you'll reduce your speed and keep control. The only exception may be if you're on sheer ice.
