I'm considering buying a S2k but b4 I do I want to ask my fellow New Yorkers how does it handle in bad weather (snow & rain). I'm from LI & as some of you know the weather can be kind of terrible.

The S 2000 is a rear wheel drive car with no traction control system. (I know everyone knows that, and I'm saying it in a good way)

I do avoid driving it in bad weather, it has rained on me a few times thgouh. It was fine, solid and stable with no spirited driving whatsoever (No VTEC!, no hard accelerations through gears, no fast cornering of any kind, no shit! :p, sorry couldn't help it). Never driven it in the snow yet, but if I had to I would probably drive it the way I do in the rain devided by 5, I can't imagine it going anywhere though when things get real slippery and slushy. The tires are superior in the dry but not great at all in other conditions and being the solid car that it is all around, the contact points to the pavement become the weakest ones in bad weather, allowing any excess force to get things out of control.

I have driven in heavy rain a few times and I had no problem. Of course I drove more carefully.

I have not yet driven in snow but I'm sure I will be doing so this winter. My S2K is my only car and drive it everyday to work in L.I.

I'm sure everyone knows how these cars are in the rain, but I won't even try the snow.. Just a piece of crap , like my civic.. It can save you money on insurance too..

I'm not sure if the stook was meant to be driven year round in states that potentially have harsh winters. Consider the low clearance and the high performance, DRY and HOT WEATHER, tires. Couple that with rear wheel, no traction control as 8900 pointed, this could be a disaster when the snow hits.

As you know, suffolk can get hit a lot harder than the city and the snow clearing efforts out east take considerably longer. Once the first snow hits, my stook is hibernating in the garage.

Just my .02. There are others that swear by this car in the snow...I'm not risking it. That's what the beater is for... Good luck.

DO NOT drive this car in slush, snow or ice without snow tires. You will not get very far. Get snow tires on it and have a blast. We in igloo and polar bear country (j/k ;) ) don't fear winter. I try to have fun with it.

Sorry about the earlier post. I meant to say buy a used car like my civic for the winter.. I got mine for the price of snow tires..

Just a piece of advice. Get yourself a set of Blizzak LM22 winter tires and you will be golden in the snow and ice! http://www.tirerack....one/bs_lm22.jsp

Must be just my car, I guess. It drives better in the snow on the stock tires than some of the front wheel drive cars that I have had (Probe GT, Beretta GT). Put your cars up for the winter if you like, but I will be enjoying mine the year round and having a ball.

Enjoy,
Bob

  You better do a double take on your tires to make sure they're SO2's. I came home after the first snow fall here and just about didn't make it home. Any kind of hill and I don't dare stop 'cause I'd never get going again. I'm going to keep my snows on a bit longer next Spring and put them on earlier next Winter. You're a way better driver than I.

I won't drive my 'S' in the snow. I tried moving it from my driveway to the street, last winter and couldn't get traction. I'm sure snow tires would help, but I wouldn't take the chance.

Buy a junker to run around in bad weather.

Did you look into buying a second car as a winter beater? You may find that the extra cost to insure a second car may be more than offset if you then insure the S2000 as a limited use pleasure car.

Listen to 8900, I picked up an 82' Civic for moving parts, mall duty, and foul weather. Leave the joy riding to the S2000. Just the thought of spinning into a snow bank in the middle of a Nor-easter sent me search for a beater.

FYI-- The Bridgestone S-02's on our cars are NOT designed to be used in snow, only in the rain.

If you attempt to drive an S2K in the snow with the OEM tires, you deserve to be laughed at!
