Default adding a name to car registration

Is there a way to add a name to a car registration? Or only through a transfer of a title? If so, do you just go to DMV(hell on earth as one other member noted)?

go to a AAA office and get it done mang.

is the car that you're wanting to do this on, paid off? if not, you're going to have to talk to the lienholder/bank too. that wont be an easy process.

What Constitutes a Change in Ownership?

Any change of the registered owner or lienholder (legal owner) of a vehicle or vessel is considered to be a change in ownership that must be updated on the records at the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV). The change is usually due to:

* Sale or Gift
* Adding or deleting the name of an owner
* Inheritance
* Satisfaction of lien (full payment of car loan)

Transfer

is there a way just to add a name to the registration/title without a change of ownership? here's the scenario...i might be getting my sister's car DA since she's in korea for a couple of years to teach english at one of the universities there. Now i'm looking to renew my insurance and some of the companies require that my name be on the registration/title of her car in order for me to insure the car. Is there a way to do this? Or will we have to transfer ownership of her car to me, and then change it back to her when she gets back?

she would need to go to dmv and add you to title.. she needs title with her, or if you have bill of sale in your name you can do it your self .
