"MAP Whack" How-To

So basically what I'm trying to say is - if you screw something up - it's not my fault.

i was wacking it for a while before, car wouldn't engage into vtec. i bought another brand new map sensor but i fixed it with the zip ties. so, i have an extra map sensor. definitely this before buying another map sensor (which may be unnecessary)...

The map whack is a myth. The root problem is carbon buildup in the channel that leads from the map sensor down to the throttle body. The "whack" loosens the deposits there temporarily and allows the sensor to read correctly, which is why the symptoms return after time.
Remove the map sensor and clean the channel with brake cleaner. Problem solved.

actually that is not quite true.
If you consider that the MAP sensor is a MEMS device (micro electric mechanical system), then hitting it has a bossibility of loosing a moving part. MEMS biggest problem is contamination and sticking.

In retrospect, carbon build up seems more realistic.

This worked perfectly for me, when I had the exact same symptoms. Wanting to stall pulling away from lights, random fuel cut offs between 4 and 6000 rpm.
Not only that, but my idle is lower and smoother than ever, and I'm sure I have more power between 4 and 6000rpm now.
I did the whack and the ecu reset simultaneously, so I don't which had the biggest effect.

It's a safe assumption, since if you buy a new MAP sensor from honda, a specially shaped heavy duty zip tie is included. This was not on original models.
