Maybe patching helps for a short while, but I'm pretty conviced that machining the frame is the only long term fix.

Mike, my suspicions are that those who have fitted these after getting a new hood fitted are having success, and those who are not having any luck already had wear issues on older hoods.

Valid point. I do wonder if any have suffered any lateral movement in the skins resulting in the velcro getting too close to the lining. That'll chaff like a hedgehog!! :D

Am I right in thinking that there was some sort of honda bulletin detailing the hood wear problem? I swear I stumbled across something with a link to a honda doc whilst looking to buy, but did I bookmark it?? NO! grrr

Anyone remember seeing something?

Also, anyone has any experience with a honda extended warranty and hood wear, know if its covered?

If you look carefully just above "customer infomation" it says "American Honda" this bullitin has no standing as far as Honda UK are concerned. You'll never get Honda UK to fix your soft top with that document, others have tried. :suspect:

Just had a quick thought when fitting some helicopter tape onto my bike.

I've already fitted lizard skins, but wouldn't helicopter tape be the perfect solution? It's clear, stays in place and it can be shaped and fitted in any way you want, all while being smooth and tough enough for anything it touches to be protected and glide off.

I've a few meters of the stuff after my mountain biking days I could even do some deals for people wanting to buy some. At £16 a meter ( 150mm wide ) on ebay I could do 150mmx150mm for £2.50 sent or similar.
