So the perfect S2000 would be an AP2 with F20C engine, Hondata'd 2006 ECU, no DBW/VSC and CR suspension mods but standard body.
Yes please!

Have any of you seen the resale value of S2000s? The prices rise pretty evenly by year, so no one year stands out.

Plus, who buys a USED car because it has the best resale value? So you're just looking to spend more money on your used S2000?

Besides, if you really understood what Honda did to the S2000 every two years to improve it, you'd get the newest S you could afford.

Just don't forget, all euro cars still have 9k redline. ALL YEARS.

06+, but not a fan of the CR except for the darker wheels, I saw an 08 CR on my Honda dealer the other night with only a couple thousand miles on it--I'm guessing that owner didn't care for the extras either

Going to have to disagree with that last statement. I don't see honda's changes as improvements...at least for me. As much as I like my CR, I miss the 9k rpm (and associated gearing) of my old AP1. Seems more fun...maybe not as fast, but to me the F22 was in response to those wanting more torque. Not that important to me as the car is very much a momentum car anyway.

Not all change is good. What honda did, imo, was to improve the car for their target audience - and their target audience (or perception of) seemed to change over the years.

BTW - are the 06+ euro cars (f20c) still DBW?

I could've gotten an '08 but hated how the seats stuck out higher than the "rollbar". Didn't like the rims either but no biggie...Would've gotten some aftermarket ones and problem fixed. So I got a left over '07 and was happy...Would love to have that guage cluster from the '08-09's, though...Much better flowing than the rainbow temp and fuel guages in the '4-'07's, imho.

Really depends whether you're gonna use it to be an all out track junkie or a daily driver. Test drive different years...Good Luck.

The CR is the best s2k made IMO.

But looking at used cars, I'll modify Saki's statement at bit: When buying used always buy the newest lowest mileage car you can afford.

If the choice is between an 80k mile MY04 and a 20k mile MY03, the MY03 is the "safer" choice.

Its not more torque (I mean, the difference is minimal), its moving the powerband - it changes how the car drives and gives you more power below 6k rpm, so you're not waiting for VTEC to spool. Besides, the lowered redline from boring the engine was just one area of improvement.

In the end it does fall largely on personal opinion, and I think an F20C with the rest of the AP2 improvements might be best, but I've only driven US spec S2000s, and I prefer the 04+ models.

Almost everyone that's replied in this thread has recommended the year car they own, so obviously people choose the S for personal preference, and not because one year is objectively best.
