It finally happened.

Yesterday I was returning some torque wrenches to Chris Barry (thanks Chris). Sitting at the lights a taxi comes up the left side with the obvious intention of racing me off the line. I'll show him!

And boy did I show him. Launched mildly and feathered the clutch, turbo kicks in, wheels hop and BANG!

Followed by a sickening grinding sound.

Managed to park the car. Called Chris and he offered to come up and gloat.... ahhh, help.

Seems my right CV cup spins crazily but doesn't transfer drive to the axle. Probably a broken tripod where it splines with the axle itself.

Called a tow truck and they eventually came.

Had the car towed to Jax Tyres (buddies of mine who are walking distance from my place) and dropped in a spare axle this morning.

They haven't got around to it yet but when they do I'll post pictures of the carnage.

Jeez... did the cabby roll by laughing??
What spare parts for your car don't you have Aus?? Each time you break something or someone else has broken something you're always like "yep..I've got one of those in the garage".
Do$tylin'.... finally got my car....took 8 years.

I know, amazing isn't it. When Steve broke his manifold he was overjoyed to know that I had a spare.

But that is pretty much it. My spares are almost entirely depleted now.

And maybe the cabby was laughing but if he was in a hurry he would have been late as he got stuck behind my broken down car until all the other traffic drove around.

The F20C held the record for producing the highest specific power output for any mass production naturally aspirated engine 123.5 HP/L until Ferrari released the 458 Italia in 2010, which produces 124.5 HP/L.

Funny thing is I just replaced the axles about 100Km back for the CV grind. That's why I have a spare right hand axle. I pulled it apart last night and inspected for wear but it is perfect.

Stain, just found and responded to your PM.

I thought for sure it was my diff. And I don't have a spare one of them.

But Chris checked it out and is pretty sure it is my axle.

LOL Vuey, the only reason why you still have one is because you haven't been able to sell it!

Speaking of which (OT) are you still selling it?

How was my diagnosis Aus? Was it the tripod that let go?

Chris.

Got the car and broken axle back today. Cost me two cases of beer.

Took some pics:

Hmmm, that twisted boot doesn't look right.

Tripod doesn't look so bad.

Ooops! Chris was spot on.

As you can see the tripod has cracked right through and was just free wheeling on the axle splines.
