Is there any plausable advantage for doing this over just doing a Vafc (or other) Tune and just lowering to around 4k?

i would love to do a build thread but but my problem is there are too many china knock off companies that would get a head start on what i am making. honestly, I tired of a lot of knock off companies using others peoples ideas and R&D to make themselves a dime. sorry to rant but i will post dyno sheets and a few pics without trying to reveal too much.

Build thread won't be necessary. When he gets it running it'll be all over turbomagazine.com again haha
funny you should say that. actually D Sport has dibs on the full story but I can give away small bits of info on it to you guys.

I'm sure what you are talking about would work but VTC is a complete different power adder.imagine VTC as an adjustable cam sprocket that is constantly getting adjusted throughout the power band.

[QUOTE=LostMotion,Jul 5 2009, 04:16 PM]Having played with cam gears quite a bit, I don't think having variable cam timing on the intake would be very advantageous considering the cost to get a system working.

Hey brother if you can do it I'm open to the results.

I'm just guessing it won't be much help in a canyon or on a road course, I can keep my revs in a 2,500 RPM band quite easily. I have manual gears on my car and have seen what the changes do in certain rev bands. I personally can't advance my intake cam much because of a milled head, but others have done about 10 crank degrees. I know there is a benefit to optimizing the cam timing across the RPM band, but adding 5 ft-lbs of TQ at 4500 RPMs is of zero value to me, and I wouldn't pay $2-4k for it that's for sure. There would be some very minimal gain in power from optimizing 6500 RPMs versus 8000 RPMs, but that would be very small.

I think this system would shine for a daily driver, which is probably why the RSX has the system, to make the car more drivable.

I think running the F head with the K series iVTEC is by far the easiest way to do it. plus i think the F head is way better then a K. it's just missing iVTEC. no need to do do a manifold swaps or anything.

Is the iVTEC system run off of Oil pressure or....? I know its different but I used to own and tune a SVT focus and the VCT was oil actuated. I would be curious how, in general terms, this can work.

Yeah F head def much better than K... This could be pretty sick as an aftermarket design. See what you can do about improving power everywhere.
