Car makes clunking sound at complete stop?
hey guys, i recently bought a used s2000 and i really love the car. i notice that whenever my car makes a complete stop, theres a clunking noise somewhere under my car.. i think its the brakes but im not sure. my brakes also sqeals when i brake, but the brakes are still really good. i notice that there are after market slotted rotors on my car too..could the after market rotors be causing the clunking and squealing noises? its just 1 light *CLUNK* by the way when i stop and then sometimes when i take off on first gear, i hear it too..what can be the problem??

Axle nut could be lose on the rears, they need to be torqued higher than spec. don't quote me but I think the manual says 180 lbs/ft and it supposed to be 2x0... 220? somebody help me out. Anyway, the clunk from a dead stop is often caused by that although i never heard anyone say their car did that while coming TO a stop. start there anyway. it's easy to do and it might solve your issue.

is the clunking as your put the tranny into 1st gear, or does it sound like it's coming from the body/suspension area ?. I know these cars will clunk when you go into 1st gear at a stop.

yeah ill try and retorque the axel nuts and then see how that works out. the clunk happens sometimes when the car starts moving.. theres no clunk noise when i put it in first gear. and also where are the sway bar end links and how do i check on those if their making the clunk?
