Clutch Master Cylinder Rebuild

Does anyone know where you can buy a clutch and slave cylinder rebuild kit? I hate the thought of spending $450 to replace them when all that's needed is a few rubber pieces and a spring.

I'd rather spend the money on beer :vdrunk:

or a whole new clutch master and slave for under $160US. How come yours needs replacement? leaking?

Thanks Rich and Dave,

I don't believe it is leaking, the fluid level has not changed much, but it gets discoloured in about a year and a half, which means the rubber parts inside the cylinders are deterioriating.

I'm also noticing that the clutch pedal needs to be pressed down farther before it begins to disengage (like the piston is not returning all the way back). The transmission is also getting more dificult to shift, especially into reverse (no syncro).

I've had similar problems with other cars.


I might just take it apart today, clean / polish it and see what happens.


The prices shown certainly are lower than local jobbers here!

I'll post my results - or ask someone for a ride to the dealer :)

Well, I took everything right apart, cleaned and lubricated it and the clutch pedal is still at the same hieght. I guess I was just paranoid.

What I did notice though was that the ball where the slave cylender meets the clutch fork was corroded and the grease had failed. I cleaned it and covered it in some anti-sieze.

The clutch pedal seems much smoother in operation now (and the fluid is nice and clear again).

FYI I believe this (slave / fork knuckle) can be lubricaed without having to open the hydraulic system. Just remove the 2 bolts that hold it on.

I had read this too. Apparently some people also file down the rough edges on the "ball" where it fits into the "cup".
