vuey, that was the first thing I tryd. In theory it seems easy but for some reason the majority of the time the ring tones refuse to sync to your phone. I converted about 10-15 different songs into the mp4 files or what ever they are and out of all those files, using the exact same process for some reason only one file actually managed to make it onto my phone so I gave up. and Ive downloaded a bunch of programs but they all turn out to be shareward ones that only allow you to capture the first 10 seconds

That's weird.....

Well best to go to option 2 and just download them from the website I listed above works 100% everytime . I currently got "thunderstruck" by AC-DC as my ringtone .

Was having a fiddle with my mates ipad lastnight, pretty cool gadget, but it looks like his laptop is going to be made redundant . I don't think I'd get one just yet.... He got the wifi model and plans on using the iPhone for when he's out an about. One cool thing he did have was a program where he can control his home pc from his ipad and iPhone !

My laptop is standing upright in a stand (you can see it in the iPad photo) attached to a monitor, mouse and keyboard and when I wanted to use it in the lounge room I would disconnect it.

Now that I have the iPad I will only disconnect it when I travel.

Jamie, you realise you have to cut the sample down to less that 40 secs?

Aus, sure do. As i said it worked with one with one ring tone which is the one i currently have on my phone but none of the rest did even though i did the exact same process with every one. I even downloaded a few, one of which worked and ten when i put this new one on the old one vanished. Its bizar. My mate is jail breaking my phone today so that may make a differance

Is this an update to existing software or will you need to spend another 1k for a new iphone with this function?

From my understanding if you are using an iphone 3GS you will be fine to upgrade. If you are using a 3G model I don't believe you can.

The article says (and as has been mentioned previously) that the 3G will upgrade to OS4 but multitasking won't be functional. The reason is that the 3G's processor isn't powerful enough.

I don't really think it can do anything a laptop can't. It's just a much more convenient form factor. Think of the locations I listed above. A laptop is not ideally suited to any of those. Can you imagine curling up in bed with the latest e-book you've downloaded with a laptop?

Mind you, a laptop is a far more convenient device for watching a movie as it stand up by itself.

I hate watching movies on the laptop. Too small to put on the dresser at the foot of the bed and too bulky/hot to rest on my chest/lap. I think I'd enjoy the Ipad better.

This apps for mac =/ Im using a PC. thanks for the heads up anyway

You can create them with the latest itunes... I could not find the link but it is in one of the menus.... not a very obvious one but it is... The only thing is that you have to edit the song to 30 seconds beforehand (or something like that)

We used to put the laptop on a bar stool beside the bed. But I recently got a new network media player for the lounge room so the old one goes to the bedroom. So from now on downloaded stuff will be watched on the TV in both places.

I had my iphone jail broken yesterday and now Ive got access to 100's of free ring tones :) I also got a really cool s2000 theme for the phone as well. when your unlocking the phone, instead of having an arrow that you slide across youve got a silver s2000 driving across your screen as well as a bunch of other honda related features.

Not to my knowledge. I jailbreaked mine before OS3 and it was apparently locked to Optus.

I'm going to jailbreak mine so I can use it as a 3G modem for the iPad.

I got a MythTV server at home but haven't been cleared for a TV in the room. If I ever get clearance from the higher power I will just put a Myth front end there. In the mean time I'll shoot for an Ipad and program the Mythserver to convert the videos to the right format for streaming to it.

I'm not familiar with MythTV.

But on the iPad I have an app called Air Video. You install the Air Video server software on you Mac and point it to video files. The iPad can then play them directly or convert them on the fly. Supports many formats.

Air Video sounds cool. Might give it a try.

MythTV is a PVR on Steroids: Can have as many tuners as you can afford (I have 4 ATM), has web based scheduler/stream server, has fat client that runs on win/lin/mac, can rip dvds, store music, show you feeds from your security cameras, manage dls from a Netflix account and can distribute the load for recording/storage through different machines (when the right HW is available and configured). It is open source and community based so the price is $0 but you gotta get your hands dirty.

No no I'm not kidding and its not old either I saw it on the news yesterday China made a copy of the ipad using googles android OS =).

heres the link: http://www.news.com.au/technology/ipad/wor...y-1225874244075

Sorry Aus to confuse you. (should have posted the link the first time round.)
I'm telling you these copies are 2nd to none these days. My friend bought an iPhone copy from china and my god couldn't tell the dfference until you started using it and with all these skin apps floating around you'd have no problems!

Sorry guys when it comes to techs and gadgets I have to read it. (part of my job)
I have too much internet time @ work :spitcoffee:

I am aware of the iped.

I was confused by Adrenalin's post. I guess he could be referring to pediatrics, the branch of medicine concerned with infants. Although PED is mostly associated with pedophilia these days. I'm thinking it may be marketed as the ideal stalking device.
