Hi all. It's 2011 and time to announce the dates for the LA EOM run aka Last Sunday of the Month Run.

For those unfamiliar, I take a drive the last Sunday of the month every month, weather permitting, as kind of an End Of Month (eom) ritual. Yeah, I'll sometimes drive other days too, but the standing run for me is always the last Sunday morning of the month in the Santa Monica Mountains. Stopping for food is often worked into the run somehow. It's always bring your own sunscreen, water and a full tank of gas, though.

For 2011 those days will be:
Jan 30
Feb 27
Mar 27
Apr 24 (note that this is Easter Sunday)
May 29 (Memorial Day weekend)
Jun 26
Jul 31
Aug 28
Sep 25
Oct 30
Nov 27
Dec 25 (well, maybe not; probably move that to Monday since work is closed Monday the 26th)

So put those on your calendar. PM me or post if you have questions. Updates for time and specifics will be added each month by the Friday before the run date. I reserve the right to go on vacations and skip a month, or to move the entire run to San Diego or Santa Ynez once in awhile if I feel like it on a particular month. :-)

Sometimes a bunch of people show up and sometimes no one else shows up. Doesn't matter. I'm out there for the drive either way.

This coming Sunday, Jan 30, I'm aiming for meeting at the Vons parking lot on PCH (at the corner of Sunset Blvd and Pacific Coast Highway -- 17380 W Sunset Blvd, Pacific Palisades, CA 90272) at 8am. YES, you read that right, 8AM. I have come to realize the value of an early start is priceless. It is safer, nicer, and just all 'round better because you have more day to work with. (yes, I ended with a preposition. TS.) Getting up that early on a Sunday is only painful for the first few minutes. It gets easier once you hit the shower.

Part of this month's run will include a stop for breakfast (brunch).

Do others go? I need to get my mind off of things and might join you on this.

Every month is different. Show up and find out. You have nothing to lose.

Or you could sit at home watching tv or surfing the internet thinking about the stuff you have on your mind while a beautiful Sunday morning drive in one of the most scenic places in southern California happens without you. Heck, you can always leave and do your own thing (still in the most scenic of places) if it ends up not suiting your interest. :-D

Slept through my alarm  but I see the rain now. WTF? Don't we pay enough taxes to keep the weather machine working?

Weather report does not look promising for Feb 27. Safe to say this run is canceled this month. Even if it isn't raining Sunday, there will be run-off and debris from the rain Friday and Saturday. :-(

We will have to do an off schedule run to make up for it. Keep an eye on this thread.

Tomorrow is the last Sunday of the month. Weather permitting, I'll be running for a couple of hours. If there is any rain at all, I'm canceling. It will be a serious run with only one brief stop at the Mulholland Overlook at the Snake. I have to take care of some business on a time schedule later in the day, so I have to keep it short and to the point.

10am at Vons on PCH in Pacific Palisades.

Since we got rained out last weekend...

Sunday April 3 at 9am. Depart at 9:30am.
Vons parking lot on PCH
17380 W Sunset Blvd, Pacific Palisades, CA 90272
(at the corner of Sunset Blvd and Pacific Coast Highway)

According to weather.com, temps will be in the mid 60s to low 70s and it will be partly cloudy. Accuweather.com says there may be a passing shower in the early morning. I have given up trying to figure out the danged weather. If it's raining when I'm ready to leave, then it's probably canceled.

8am Sunday April 24 (leave by 8:30a)
Chart House in Pacific Palisades (vons is closed for renovation)
18412 Pacific Coast Highway
Malibu, CA 90265

Bring sunscreen and bottled water. Fill your tank and empty your bladder before we head out (Chevron and 76 stations at intersection of PCH and Sunset Blvd just south of the meet point are good for that).

If there is rain, we'll postpone, but there is no rain predicted at this time. Supposed to be mid to upper 60s and sunny.

Saturday May 28 9am.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Weather permitting, next EOM run will be on SATURDAY May 28th, 9am.

The reason we are doing Saturday instead of Sunday is because my Mom comes in Saturday evening to visit for a few days and so I really can't host the Sunday morning thing this month. My Mom is a real trouper, but I will *not* subject her to my driving in the mountains. She would have a heart attack for sure. I could just hear her now, "Dear, do you *always* drive like this? I'm sure I didn't teach you to drive so very fast!"

Since the Vons is still under renovation (I think) we'll meet at the Chevron at PCH and Sunset (across the street from the Vons).

I considered moving the drive to this weekend but the Amgen bicycle tour will be in town so the roads will be closed Sunday and they will be doing a bunch of set up on Saturday. Not worth the hassles.

BUMP.

Weather permitting (forecasters are saying it's supposed to be clear and sunny), next EOM run will be on SATURDAY May 28th, 9am.

Since the Vons is still under renovation (I think) we'll meet at the Chevron at PCH and Sunset (across the street from the Vons).

^^ Maybe you can make it next time. AdeJong. I really needed to get home and get some housecleaning done (Mom's coming to down) so stopping at the restaurant really wasn't in the cards today. It was a beautiful day for a drive and not too many cars on the road, surprisingly. LE was out in the usual places but not in the level I had expected to see (I figured we would see a much stronger presence). None of us got lit up. Might be because I had cruise control on to keep us legal on the straighter stretches and I made dang sure I was being reasonable on the sweeper sections on Mulholland. The only cops we saw were treated to very conservative numbers on their radar gun displays.

JUNE 26 FUN RUN

Meet up:
8am - 8:30am at Vons. We leave at 8:30 am sharp tomorrow.
Vons parking lot on PCH
17380 W Sunset Blvd
Pacific Palisades, CA 90272

Renovations at Vons are done so we can meet there. The reason we need to leave earlier and on time is because it's summer. The later we start, then the later we end the run. And the later we end the run, the more time we spend ROASTING in horrendous weekend afternoon PCH traffic trying to get out of the area. Plus I have some things I need to take care of in the afternoon, so ya'll can keep driving if you want, but I will need to go.

Bring sunscreen, water and a full tank of gas. All of which can be obtained at or near the Vons. Potty breaks are encouraged before we head out since there aren't many options other than bushes where we drive.

PM me if you want my cell to keep in touch.

A pic from last month's run:

May be interested in heading up with ya guys! But we're not going to necessarily "carve" the mountains right? I'm on some pretty bald tires ;(

None of us is interested in getting a speeding ticket or crashing. Everyone is encouraged to drive their own pace, not tailgate, absolutely NOT cross the double yellow, and be aware that we are sharing the road with other cars, motorcycles, bicyclists, and the occasional skate boarder (those skateboarder guys are NUTS on Mulholland Highway!), not to mention wildlife too. We endeavor not to lose anyone either. We drive in a spirited fashion, but not crazy. The idea is to have fun. It ain't fun when we get tickets, crash, or piss off the local constabulary in some fashion. :-D

Sweet, just exactly what I'm looking for haha nothing "extreme". A nice spirited cruise is all I need...but things came up so I can't go as early. I'm gonna have to pass up tmrw for next month's last sunday :( Have fun nevertheless!
