Depends on where exactly in the Valley. If you will be at the northwest end of the SFV, then maybe take the 405 to Topanga Canyon, then take PCH south to Sunset (to the Vons). From points in the SFV further south or east, then take the 101 to the 405 south -- from there you can either do Sunset Blvd west to Pacific Coast Highway (PCH) or take the 10 freeway west then North on PCH to Sunset. While driving Sunset Blvd is a little more scenic than staying on the 405 to the 10 freeway, Sunset is definitely a speed trap risk since it goes through a LOT of residential zones and you find yourself enjoying the view and not paying attention until LE lights you up and you realize you were doing 45 in a 35 zone.
At that time of the morning, there won't be traffic issues no matter what route you take. So you could google map it from your point of origin in the SFV and be pretty much okay no matter what it suggests.

Wouldn't I need to access Topanga Canyon from the 101, not the 405? Either way, it looks like I'll be doing a canyon run just to get to the starting point. Sounds great to me. I'd be coming from either Chatsworth or Reseda most likely. either route would work. What is LE, though?

Yeah. My bad. 101! Depending on where in Reseda, you can do either Topanga or the freeway routes I mentioned. Topanga is nice. :-) If you're in a hurry or running late, freeway.

I don't count heads. People who say they are coming don't show, and those who don't say anything often do. I have generally found headcounts to be useless.
Last month we had about 10 cars. Check the vids and pics posted.

Vons at 8:30am (meet) and depart by 9am. This gives everyone a 30 minute window to arrive.

Bring sunscreen, drinking water, and a full tank of gas. All of which can be obtained at or near the Vons. Potty breaks are encouraged before we head out since there aren't many options other than bushes where we drive. Also, it is supposed to be quite warm this weekend, so be sure to heed the advice about bringing water to drink.
We will eventually end up near somewhere for food. :-)

About 20 miles, 30 minutes give or take, to the start point of the run. Google Maps is your friend. :-)

Depends. First "half" of the run is about 43 miles and we make a stop along the way at the Mulholland Scenic Overlook above The Snake. We end up that part of the run, typically, at Hows Market in Malibu for food and potty breaks. So the first half of the run takes as little as 1.5 hours and as much as 2.5 depending on how many cool vehicles are at the Overlook.
The second "half" of the run (after food and potty break) is about another 40 miles and we don't make any stops unless something really cool comes up. That part takes about 1 hour to 1.5 hours depending on traffic and stuff. If you are hardcore into driving, the second half is really worth sticking around for because I save the two coolest roads for that second part of the run.
Naturally, you can "leave" anytime you want to or need to. It's casual.

I'm tired and ready to camp out on the couch, so here's just a brief recap:
Met up at Vons and we started the day with 9 S2000s, 2 CR-Zs and 2 Infinitis that just sort of tagged onto the end of our group as we left the Vons parking lot. Uneventful run up our usual haunts. I had two walkie talkies this time and I think we'll add a third for next time if we have as large a group. These are cheapies and I think having one somewhere in the middle of the pack will be a good idea to act almost like a relay between front and rear.
Anyway, hot weather. We stopped at the Mulholland overlook above the Snake for awhile and tried to stay in the shade as much as possible. Continued on down to PCH via some twisties and then on to Hows Market where we got perhaps the biggest shock of the day. Hows Market has CLOSED! I had no idea! The huge lot was fenced off and we had to park on the side street. I'm not sure what I'm going to do for next month yet, but it looks like we'll have to pick a new brunch/lunch spot. article about Hows closing
So we hung out at Starbucks for a bit, ran into some pseudo-celebrity jerk and eventually headed on out for the second half of the run. Gabe and his wife who came up from OC needed to head out, and we lost a couple of other folks too and so our numbers were smaller, but still having fun. The group picture was taken by a random passer-by who knew our cars well--a woman who happens to work with a company that handles Honda's advertising. :-)
So up Decker, across Mulholland, down the Snake, down Las Virgenes to Piuma, across Piuma to SaddlePeak, then down Tuna. Wahoooo! Tuna is the bestest road there is.
And I gotta tell ya, the black CRZ hung in there damn well! His brakes were smoking at the bottom of the run, but he did a fine job of gettin' that eco-machine around a corner or two!
Oh... oddball story of the day: we're hauling bananas on up Piuma and I run down this full size SUV. Now folks, when I say I ran him down, I gotta say, I really did have to run him down. This was no rolling roadblock This guy was movin' that thing. He was really giving the beast a work out and covering some ground. He waved me by fairly soon but I have to admit he was *not* a faded memory in just two turns after that.
Okay, nuff. Gotta post.
Pics to follow.

I don't really like the way they crop the pictures. Way too close and no motion effect. All look like they are parked at a curb. Btw, did we have a right hand drive white S2K in the group? I didn't even noticed 'til looking at those photos.
I had a great time cruising with you guys in the morning. Thanks for organizing the whole thing. Everyone was very friendly. Sorry couldn't hang around for the second half. Maybe next time.
