Depends greatly on the state.

In Virginia you are required to have it on the bumper - windshield/dash doesn't cut it, not to mention the danger if you were in an accident and it went flying at you.

Some places will drop fix-it tickets, others will say you had the problem when you were pulled over and now you've fixed it, we won't pull you again.

well my plates already in the front bumper. like i said i got the ricks2k plate holder and it good pretty good. i have heard from people here that the statute doesnt define that the plate HAS to be in the front bumper only the front. the story that was brought up was Texas vs. Losoya.

kind of off topic but is there any reason not to just bolt the plate onto the front bumper without a mount? thats what i did, although i didnt torque down the bolts too much

I bolted min directly to the bumper. I used some half inch thick rubber washers as spacers and I think it looks great with zero scratching.

I bought a new Honda mount bracket for my S right after I bought it. I think the plate looks just fine where it was intended to go. The mount even slopes down on the bottom to a rational areodynamic angle. Driving around with one on or near the dash to avoid mounting it at the intended location escapes my reasoning capabilties. Do you just think it takes away that much from the exterior looks or what? Cause I don't feel that way at all when I look at mine.Conversely,I'd think it looks quite stupid on the dash or stuck to the inside of the windshield.

Me too, then I bent the bottom half of the plate at near a 45 degree angle back into the opening. I have their license plate in the right place and they don't have a clean surface to shoot with their lasers.
