For price and stickyness Hankook Ventus v12s are good, think i paid like 85 for the fronts each and like 95 for each of the rears. But i think treadwears something like 180 and well i have probably like 8K miles and there below the legal limit so if your looking for durability this wouldnt be thou tire for you.

Check the Wheels and Tires section of the board. My personal choice are the Dunlop Direzza Star Specs. They are unbelievable in the wet and cooler temps not to mention in warmer conditions. They are pretty cheap compared to some but are not all seasons. I just use mine from spring to mid fall and do not see myself switching to another tire.

I'd love to replace my s02's with another set of s02's. Theyre just too goddamn expensive! Ive been leaning toward the Dunlop Star Spec as an alternative.

x2. I had these on my EP3 and they were great for all around like mentioned above (except snow of course)

I'll probably going with these on my next set of tires.

question: are you planning to drive on these tires in colder temperatures as well?

if purely for spring/summer, then the dunlop star specs are a GREAT choice. the stickiest would be hankook rs3... and they're even cheaper.

they are the choice for many of the top street-tire autocross drivers in the country. you cannot go wrong with either, but the dunlops will be better in the wet.

i have some cheap fuzion zri tires if you're interested. the fronts are new and the rears are shot. ill sell them to you for cheap if you're interested. not the grippiest tire out there, but great in the rain and great treadlife.

What last longer, dunlop or hankook?

I ended up going with the 225/255 starspec because i felt it was a better designed tire than the rs3

I have had S-02, S-03's, Direzza star specs, Hankook RS3's, Hankook RS2's, RE-11's, RE01R's, RT-615's, and Falken Ziex 512 tires on my S2000. Out of all of them, for my car, which makes over 300 ft/lbs of torque, I have really loved the S-02's, RS3's RE-11's and star specs. For the best tire, not counting price, I'd get the RE-11's, but if you were to factor in the best summer tire for the price I'd be torn between the RS3 and Star Spec. The Star spec is better in rain and cooler weather, but the RS3 is stickier in warm dry weather, by a noticeable amount. You won't go wrong with either tire!

it's hit or miss... the treadwear rating on tires is absolute garbage as it's a number each manufacturer comes up with... not standardized across the board. most of my friends who drive their cars regularly, and run the gamut from semi to serious autocross competitors will say they're about the same.

unless you're competing, there's no reason to give up the better grip the dunlops afford when it rains out... the ultimate dry grip the hankooks give can't be found on the streets when just driving for the sheer fun on public roads.

in any case, i've had my current set of star specs for 2 years now. my prior set lasted about the same as well.
