The ground was wet today so I decided to throw the car through a couple of turns. Surprisingly it performed pretty well, granted this was in wet conditions. My experience with drifting is nothing compared to a pro, but I consider myself a decent drifter given any RWD vehicle. I don't plan on doing this competitively, just recreational. I would like to hear your guys thoughts on how well the car drifts. I understand that this vehicle isn't setup to drift, just grip. But my impressions were that it was very smooth through every turn I took it through and the throttle control during a slide is very similar to an ae86.

BTW I'm very new to this forum. I have a black 01 s2000 with stock suspension on spoon springs.

Do you mind me asking how old you are? I'm not trying to flame, I just noticed these threads tend to start with a new, young owner.

Especially noting an AE86 corolla, as it is royalty and most recognized in drift culture.

Many people say the S2000 is not a good drift car, which isn't true.

Team RSR have sucessfully created a competition drift car with the S2000, and even in stock form the car performs quite well for some occassional drifts.

I remember how surprised i was at my first track day when i took a few corners sideways. The car is VERY controllable and a lot of fun.

However, keep it off the streets and do these things on a track. ;)

PS: Drifting in the wet is a lot more smooth and easier compared to doing it on a dry surface.

So how often do you and your s2000 swing? What kind of other couples are into that?

You do practice swinging safely right? You take all the precautions? Swinging can be great fun with your mistress if done safely.

I just obtained her recently and from the get go she wanted to be... swung. Not to worry though, we make sure to take extraordinary caution prior to each... swinging encounter.

Anyways, I have a question in regards to power steering mechanism. To those who have actually drifted their cars, does the power steering assist affect you ability to make quick transitions going through multiple turns? I understand the concept of the mechanism and its purpose, however I didn't notice this steering assist while drifting in a zig zag motion. The car felt very solid and responsive to my steering inputs. Could it be possible that the previous owner swapped out the stock rack with an RX7?

OP, you'll need a new diff very soon. BTW, if you have spoon springs then you dont have a stock suspension :)

When it comes to rwd cars I've owned a 85 Corolla GTS and a e36 325is. The AE I've owned for roughly 4 years before I got tired of the scene and decided to move onto something more comfortable, which was the BMW. Just recently I replaced the e36 with an s2k becase it was a great deal that I could not have passed up on.

With both cars I've had plenty of seat time taking it auto x and a few d days.

I really didn't want to have to explain mysel; just looking to see if there were any others out there whose drifted this car and what their inputs were. Didn't think the topic would be taboo.

I don't think its the topic is Taboo.
The issue is there are people that are new to driving (in general), that try to drift and total their S2K.

I think it will help bring this topic back to where you want it to be if you can convince the people that you are doing it in a safe and controlled environment.

I guess it was my fault for not conveying to the audience that I was an experienced driver. Not a kid who had their parents buy them a brand new s2000 and just finished watching the cartoon initial d. Cause only those who are childish would make such references; granted my title
was not very professional, I will choose my words carefully next time.

You do know that sort of the whole mystique with this car is the steering sensation. It's incredibly accurate and connected; that's what makes this car special.

The steering ratio's progressive so I guess use that to your advantage

I seriously doubt this. That kind of mod is pretty intensive thus only RSR has done it or at least I know of. If your car has been modified enough to have an RX-7 steering rack I'm sure the rest of the car should be heavily modified too since that should be one of those last things in a long mod list.

From what I researched it isn't that hard of a task; swapping steering racks from an FD onto the s2k. The dimensions are nearly identical and little modification/fabrication is needed. I'm pretty mechanically inclined and plan to tackle this project in the near future.

More like a thread filled with sly remarks by users who just want to get their post count up just to change their group status.
