Strange Noise when starting from warm
Hi guys
Today was a great day, so had my top down. I started my engine up from warm, and i heard a strange ticking noise for roughly 2 seconds then it goes away. I also noticed a noise which sounded like a Hoover. I switched the car off and left it for a few seconds, then powered it back up again, no strange noise this time. Drove home and left car for about 30 mins - engine was still warm. Popped up the bonnet, and started the engine again, Ticking noise is back - coming from TCT. only for a couple of seconds tho and it goes back to normal.
Anyone knows if my TCT is going bad? and anyone experienced that hoover like noise on start up?
Thanks in advance for your wisdom!

Hoover sound probably air pump related? (normal... high pitch sound as it switches off?).
TCT sounds like it is on it's way, plenty of stuff out there using the search for sandblasting/ TCT replacement etc.

Yes the Hoover is normally CAI related, (i.e you hear it more with an open intake) unless you don't have one?
And the brief 'clacking' is almost certainly TCT.
Easy DIY fix, I'm in Essex if help is needed.

Hey Tango, thanks for the offer but i live in edinburgh, which is too far away.
I take it the hoover noise is suppose to be normal then?
I also noticed a "tinny" noise (hard to describe) on acceleration - only for a second and goes away again. seems to only happen on light acceleration. Any ideas?
Gonna look into TCT replacement then, or is it better just to sandblast the current one? rather than replacing it with a new one?
Thanks again

TCT's can be purchased from Rob at Garage R - give him a call. Fitting them is relatively simple, just watch out for flying springs as you take it out!
The hoover is definitely the air pump - this is normal, but more pronounced when you've got the roof down.
Tinny noise is probably a heatshield - i have on on my MY03 at 3900rpm. It has been there since I bought it.
